Great or Normal Deal? 2014 Sierra SLT 4x4

Just curious to know if I got a Great deal or normal.

 

Closing my sale on a 2014 Certified Pre-Owned GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 4x4. Truck has under a 14k miles, certified and previous owner was GM corporate truck (according to car fax). Sticker was 50,335 (New). They wanted 36,989, I talked them down to 36,789 (or they would just "take it to auction"). My previous trucks (2009 Silverado & 2011 Sierra) were financed with Ally at 0%. Ally lowest was 2.9 so I went with USAA since it was a 2.49.

 

Features Besides usual SLT page (blue tooth, leather, etc)

Sunroof

Navigation

Driver Alert Package

Trailer Brake

Heated/ Cooled seats

Rear sliding window

Bose Audio System

Bed mat

Side Steps

Certified (2 yr maint., extended warranty, not sure what else)

 

Only thing I can't account for is the z71 package :cry:, but ill be looking to add those 20" rims soon.

 

I paid the taxes and title upfront so in total I financed 36,789 for 60mo @ 2.49% +260 USAA's GAP.

 

I know your vehicle depreciates once the 1st buyer drives off, but is almost 14K normal? Every other truck I find with the same specs are over 44k (car.com & auto trader). So Question is... Is this a average deal or a good deal?

Id say that is a pretty good deal. My MSRP was 52,300 and I paid 43,100 ( no sales tax here in NH ) Mine had 12 miles on it and is a Z71 but no sunroof. There is a thread here with 63 pages of prices paid if you want to check that out.

Yeah I was looking into that, but all i read were NEW trucks and some were trading in. I wish they didn't have sales tax LOL! another reason why i miss Alaska haha, but then again it would have been over priced

Sounds like a good deal to me as long as the truck is in good condition. Have you taken it for a long fast test drive? :lol:

As a mesuring stick, go to Laura GMC website and look at the prices for new 2015 SLT's. You didn't get a bad deal, but for only $2k - $2.5k more you could have bought new......

$200 bucks? you need to talk them down 2K...

 

Either way.. price isn't everything.. make sure it's a nice truck and it has EVERYTHING you want. Too many people on here always talking about how they wish they had this or that option. Then they go back and try to add the missing option they wished they had at 3x the cost. Nothing worse than paying 500+++ per month for a truck you aren't 100% happy with..

Nah according to the carfax it was a GM cooprate truck, so some GM plant worker in Michigan drove it around for work

Yeah lol, all I was able to struggle with. Its difficult to get loyalty, USAA member, and other discount when its not new.

Miles? There's a sle all terrain on cars.com for 36 and change 400 miles on it

 

14,6xx, I dont remember to the T but it had 14k miles. And SLE is a step down for the same amount, with 1/2 the features.

As a mesuring stick, go to Laura GMC website and look at the prices for new 2015 SLT's. You didn't get a bad deal, but for only $2k - $2.5k more you could have bought new......

I have gone to that site a few times, I tried to get a black friday deal but they were aholes. Even with their ok pricing it isnt all that great, all of them dont have sunroof or driver alert and other things, yet they price them mid 40's if that.

Yeah but used isnt always easy to talk 2k down. KBB and blackbook are putting it at 43k mark, so i didnt complain. It has every feature inside, only thing I wanted was those sweet 20" all terrain rims.but those i can add on late im much more comforatble adding rims then nav or something else lol. Over all Im happy

 

As long as you like it. But considering you probably could have gotten the same thing new for less 5k more. Not sure you got a deal.

New and 2015 truck for 5k more, yes. But with the same packages and features, probably not. 36k total

Anyone else had any experience with a used 2014? Ive read and heard a lot of new people getting mad discounts but used is another beast

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
