2015 Silverado, Solid rear window to sliding rear window?

I would like to get rid of the solid rear window in my 2015 Silverado and replace it with a horizontal sliding rear window. I cant seem to find any factory or aftermarket manufactures for this kind of set up for this year truck. The newest I have been able to find is for a 2013.

Will a window from a 2013 fit?

Is there anything on the market for the 2015?

Thanks

I worked with one of the GM engineers on this very question. if your truck is a SLT (or the Chevy version) it will have the harness connections in place. The bad thing will be the parts, around $2000 + the labor to get it installed if you want it to be just like from the factory with GM parts.

What about the other way around? Is it easily possible to go from power slide to a one piece? I just prefer the clean look of a one piece.

Thanks,

Adam

I imagine it would be very easy.

Adam and Tony - Swap! :-)

Man, I love my rear sliding window. So do the kids in the back. Open the sunroof and that window and you get a nice breeze of fresh air without a hint of wind buffeting. Can't imagine getting rid of it!

That seems to be the general consensus among most. I've had both in past and present vehicles, and I don't have much use for the slider, and prefer the clean look of a one piece. Why you can't order an ltz without a slider baffles me.

I sympathize with your frustration. Similar to many options being packaged together when you really only one one or two pieces. I love my Denali, and I really wanted that big chrome grill. But the rest of the chrome, I think I would rather of had painted parts. But I'll live with it, because it would cost too damn much to change it all now. :-)

My best guess would be either a) it makes them more money, or costs them less to do it that way. Or b) they do it that way to help maintain simplicity/consistency on the assembly line. (Which probably also results in my first guess being valid.) Maybe one assembly plant makes trim level 1 that they make the most of and only comes with the solid window. The other assembly plant makes all the other trim levels and they only come with sliders?

I definitely think it's about simplicity. As much as they are custom, they still have to be a production line truck.

To make matters even more infuriating, I saw an ltz with a solid window at a local dealer yesterday. When I inquired about it, they said Chevy messed up, it was supposed to be a slider but they didn't put it in for some reason. If I can't order my ltz with a one piece no matter how many times I ask nicely, it seems wrong that they can just choose not to put it in, even if by mistake.

Too bad the dealership wouldn't swap it for you. I don't know how that works everywhere else, but I think my dealership pays someone else to do all the glasswork. I had a recall on the windshield trim on my old grand am. Something about it not sealing correctly. When I brought it in for the fix, the dealership had called in some other glass company to perform the fix. Do they all do that?

Maybe you could offer to help the new car manager fix the issue with that truck by letting you have a glass company come in and swap them for you?

Actually I'm a tech at a Honda dealer, so I'm very familiar with glass companies. That's what I would end up doing, but I am just trying to figure out if the two glasses will interchange before I go through all the trouble.

I wish GM would go the Tundra route and make the whole window slide down. I was spoiled by that feature. With that window down and the sunroof open, it was very convertible like. :)

For some reason an SLT can be ordered without a rear slider, but it's standard on LTZ. Also standard on Denali and High Country.

(On SLT it requires avoiding the 'SLT preferred packages' that include it.

Browsing local inventory this morning and found a dealer that had quite a few ltz's with a solid window, listed as deleted power sliding window. That was enough of a chance of being able to order it that way to make me cancel my '15 lt, and I'll reorder as an ltz when the '16's can be ordered (supposedly less than 3 weeks away from being able to place the orders) my sales guy said he didn't know for sure that they had a delete option, but he'd check with the truck manager and get back to me. If it can be done, great. If not, I'll just do the swap. Checked a co workers ltz out and doesn't look like there's any reason a solid won't swap in.
