PAINT CHIPPING FRONT BUMPER on GMC All Terrain

I have a 2014 GMC All Terrain that I purchased about 6 months ago, & after a few thousand miles, noticed some large chips on the front metal portion of the bumper. I live in FL, so road salt/sand isn't an issue, I don't tailgate dump trucks etc, & the truck has never been out of FL. I have been dealing with https://www.facebook.com/gmc & they were working on a resolution with 2 GMC dealers that I took my truck to get the problem resolved under warranty repair. I am disgusted on how I was being treated by the service managers at both places. There is NO reason for the front bumper of my truck to look like a 10 year old truck with 80k miles. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing similar issues with the painted steel bumpers on their All Terrain or Denali models.

sorry to hear that. My All Terrain is also 6 months old and not a single chip in the front paint yet (knock on wood). But I mostly do local driving so there's not really people kicking up rocks in my direction.

My GMC Sierra All Terrain is also a 2014 and only 6 months old and is doing the same thing. I stopped into dealer and am currently awaiting a call back from them. It is really bad. Only the lower section that is metal though. IMO these bumpers should not flake off this easily. I don't ride close to people either. Keep me posted on what ends up with your truck and I will do the same.

My dealer repainted mine under warranty but I had to hassle him about it. I had over 100 chips in less than 10k miles.

I don't have a All Terrian so I can't comment about the painted bumpers, but I can say something about the paint. I just purchased a 2015 SLE quicksilver truck. I was washing it today and noticed a small chip come off the clear coat. A dealers body shop man told me that they are having clear coat issues with the trucks painted in silver. Also the bodyside molding was lifting after 2 days purchased. I have owned nothing but GM vehicles and have not had a problem except for this one. I even owned 2 previous 2014 Silverados with no paint issues except for a few minor contaminants in the factory paint. I will take this issue to the dealer and get it resolved. So I feel your pain on owning a new vehicle and having issues with less than satisfactory paint from the factory. It feels like you have been taken advantage of due to the amount of money these new vehicles cost.

I have a dime sized chip on my all terrain bumper. And a few other considerably smaller ones. Gotta do somethinga bout it...

Anisha,

I have yet to hear back from my dealership. I surely didn't spend $50k on a vehicle to have to worry about this. I have had Ford all my life and decided to try a GM product. All is good with the truck except for this bumper paint problem. And the fact it is only 6 months old. Lambert GM in Cuyahoga falls ohio was the dealer. This is not the dealers fault. It is paint that is not holding up to everyday driving. Again please help. Thanks. Mike

My dealer just got back to me and said GM will not do anything about it. They call it normal wear and tear like brakes and rotors. This is the worst thing ever. Well back to Ford I go. Or maybe even Toyota. I cannot believe this especially when I'm not the only one having this problem. I will be sure to let everyone I talk to know not to get a painted bumper that's for sure.

After a few chips over 3000 miles, I had clear bra paint protection on mine. The way I see it, warranty may cover repaint during warranty but not after. It will eventually chip after warranty too. The paint used in the auto industry today sucks.

I paid $700 for lower bumper, front 12" of hood and fenders and lower door jambs. I don't need to worry now.

After having been told this by these arrogant shameless profiteers, if you buy another GM car or truck, you have only yourself to blame. That would be the last straw for me.

If you push the issue or go to another dealer you can probably get it done. Also, fill out those surveys they email you, and give them 1-3 stars. I did that twice now at my dealership and everytime they call me up and say come back we'll fix whatever concerns you have.

GM does read those emailed reviews for certain
