I'm ripping some music for my truck and tried the Apple Lossless Encoder format. I see the file on the truck's screen but haven't figured out how to play it.

Do I need to use MP3 or WAV file formats?

Unfortunately, the system won't play the Lossless format ( files with .flac ).

I found a free utility online and converted some of mine to mp3's so I could play them in the truck.

Try here: http://flacsquisher.sourceforge.net/

Or Google Flacsquisher

I've used SD before, and it worked fine. I put some music on one last week (formatted Fat 32) and it wouldn't play the mp3's. Then, while listening to the radio, the display would flash off then come back on. Finally, it shutoff and rebooted to something like a DOS screen saying "Loading Software". Took me a little bit to figure out what might be the cause, so I popped out the SD card and everything went back to normal. Anyway, guess it just didn't like that SD card. USB sticks always work fine though.

OK, I reformatted the card and copied an old Marty Robbins album in MP3 and it plays fine and picks up where it left off when shut down, etc..

It seems to work as expected. All the album info and song info are shown.

There's just no station that plays western trail songs out there, even on XM. Marty Robbins, Gary Prescott, Kyle Evans, Red Stegal, etc. It's a music genre that is relatively very small. So, I either play CDs or now, I can play a SD card. Finally, a solid state memory player from the OEM in a 4x4 vehicle. About time.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but it was the only one I found mentioning media types that the factory head unit can play. I my case, I was using a USB drive, and found this info from the user manual helpful:

  • Music files with .mp3, .wma, .ogg, and .wav file name extensions can be played.
  • MP3 files that can be played: Bit rate: 8 kbps to 320 kbps.
  • Sampling frequency: 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz, 24 kHz, 22.05 kHz, and 16 kHz.
  • Files with a bit rate above 128 kbps will result in higher quality sound.

Is there a way to get the music player on my Silverado to play sub-folders, as opposed to just playing songs within a folder?
Similarly, is there a way to construct a playlist that will play music across multiple folders?
Thanks!

Okay, I have WMA Type files in folders and the format for the SD card says it is FAT32 (in the Properties).  The 2022 Sierra says the SD is unreadable (but it knows it is there).  Any ideas?
