white diamond or sunset orange?

heres my dilemma.

coming from a TBSS I was going to order a black or white diamond '14 crew 6.2/6speed LTZ.. My buddy, a salesman got me a pretty good deal on my truck but its a 5.3L. had the 22s and painted to match mudflaps and its the two tone brown and tan LTZ with rear slider....

im mostly happy with the truck besides the 5.3 but that can be fixed with some mods

6 months later I find out they are going to make sunset orange available which I have been wishing for since they quit back in '02 because I have a SOM Camaro SS.

now on to the dilemma, do I keep my truck or get a 6.2/8speed SOM (I know I cannot order one anylonger but I have found two or three optioned the way I like on a lot) or suck it up and keep my classy looking white diamond????? please leave me your opinions.

now on to the heavy pictures, I brought a SOM home to see how close it was, the codes are different and in some light you could see the car had a little more red or maroon in it but for the most part they are dam close. I feel that the truck would only be really cool when its next to the car or towing it and the white one looks better on its own... I know I might sound stupid but what do you think?

my truck.

yea, I know. I honestly want a 6.2 but cant see ordering another white one just for the motor and 3 extra gears lol when there are a couple orange ones out there, thanks for the opinion

I know the 6.2 has great power, but all I have to do is put 3.73 gears in mine with a 5.2 and it could tow over 11,000. If I put 4.10s in then it would be able to tow more than the hitch is even rated it (12,000). To be honest, the 6.2 is great but the 5.3 isn't no slouch either so both are great. If all you really want is the engine and different color I don't know if it would be worth it. You can always paint the truck later. As I said before, figure out what would make you happy, but sometimes you might have to sacrifice a color or whatever. I wish I had the 6.2, but the 5.3 is great and is all I need especially if I regear (which I will one day since I hate the 3.08s) so no big deal.

That's a tough call as you already have a capable truck. I love the color now. Didn't at first but this was the only truck within 1k miles that was built exactly how I was about to order. Didn't want to wait...

Just because you re-gear doesn't mean the truck is rated to pull more weight bud. Im sure it will get the power/torque into the proper range quicker, but the frame, braking system etc are only rated for X amount no matter what.

the orange may be harder for resale....havent seen the color in person, but it looks like a muddy orange/rust color.....your limiting yourself to specific buyers.......id pick white...white will show dirt, so dont drive it in the rain

The 1/2 ton K2s are rated at 12,000 max bud (and not just going off what the hitch is rated), the only difference is the gear ratios and engine size. I looked in the manual at my cab side, engine and gear ratio. With my current 5.3 and 3.08 setup it can only tow 6,600. But with 3.42 gears it can to around 9,500 and with 3.73s it can tow around 11,500.

If a regear to 3.42 or 3.73 happens, the capacity doesnt increase. In Theory it does, but in legality it doesnt. You are still limited to what it says in the door jamb or where ever it is printed

Is your truck a Z71???

Ya and? It doesn't have the brake controller which I can do aftermarket and if really needed I can put heavy duty shocks in the rear.

I've looked in my door jam and under the hood and haven't seen anything that mentioned towing capacity, just tire pressure. That's why I say to go off the manual and if putting any gears lower than 3.73 then you don't know what it would be able to tow.
