My first CEL..... At 900 miles!!!!

So, I remote started my truck yesterday morning waiting to leave work. It started fine, ran for 10 mins, and as I was getting ready to leave I attempted to remote start it again. It wouldn't start, so I went out to start it manually. It started fine, but right after, the check engine light illuminated.

I have a very good computer (OBDII scan tool), but being impatient I figured I'd check with onstar. My advisor told me it was a "water in fuel" code. When I got home I scanned it and found code P2269, which is a water in fuel condition.

My truck is a 2014 1500 LTZ Z71 with the 5.3L. As I said in the title it only has 900 miles on it. It's running fine which is leading me to think its a bad sensor. The only thing I did notice is it cranked longer than normal on cold startup this morning. Other than that it's running fine.

Tonight I tried clearing the code but it immediately returns, again leading me to think bad sensor. For the hell of it I just put in a bottle of HEET, in case some moisture did get in. On an interesting side note, I had noticed about 2 days before I most recently filled the tank my local Cumberland Farms had completely run out of gas. Possibly some moisture got into their tanks?? I would still expect some symptoms if the fuel actually had water in it.

So, the point of the thread is to see if anyone else has had this issue? I'm going to give the HEET a day to run through, and if I still can't get it to clear I'll be going back to the dealer.

This is a new one to me. It make sense that there was probably water in the station tanks. Good luck with the Heet.

I had the same thing with the same code a week ago on my 14 LTZ. Dealer replaced the flex fuel sensor and it fixed it. Let me know if you need a copy of my service repair.

If he got bad gas with a lot of water in it, the engine would be running rough and probably stalling often. I would think it is most likely a bad sensor. Don't you just love harborfreight quality electrical parts installed on your $ 50k truck?

A far as CEL coming on at 900 miles, let's look at the bright side: it is better than one coming on at 9 miles.

I had my truck towed at 3000 miles. Totally shut down on me in traffic....bad coil packs and wires with no dielectric grease caused misfiring that put the motor into "safe mode" or whatever. Scary shit while driving in traffic. Haven't had an issue like that since, knock on wood. Over 16k miles on the truck now.

Same thing happened too me it was the sensor.

So I brought it to the dealer, which ended up being a pointless trip. All they did was say to drive down this tank of gas and see if it goes away. They asked if I had tried any dry gas, and I reluctantly (because i knew they'd blame that) told them I put a bottle of HEET in. Their answer was there probably was some moisture, and know the HEET is causing the light to stay on.... I'm not really buying that, but we'll see.

I should note that I worked as a mechanic for 7yrs. I have my own higher end diagnostic computer (scanner), so I checked things out before I brought it in. I found the same thing they did, the code wouldn't clear. If you try to clear it it comes back at next startup. This makes me think it would be a sensor, because if there was that much contaminant to immediately retrip the CEL I would expect some other symptoms. I'm at about 1/3 of a tank now, so we'll see soon.

Thanks for the input!

Find another dealer and never go back. P2269 is a very common code. I've replaced 25 or 30 myself. All car lines except not yet on a Silverado/Sierra. Same part fits most GM vehicles. We stock them.

I agree, sounds like that dealer is an idiot. That is a simple sensor to diagnosis and to replace.
