What do you mean? I thought everyone in Iowa changed their vehicle's color to white/tan in the winter.

I'd be washing that slat/brine solution off ASAP.....I hate this time of year for those reasons.........will rust the undercarriage, wheel wells and rocker panels. Beautiful truck though!

The DOT mixes their brine with molasses around here to help stick to the roads which helps it stick to vehicles too. :fume:

This winter, I have been developing a set of "protocols" to rinse off salt from mine (especially undercarriage). Determining what weather conditions (temperature, sun, wind, etc), which spot in the driveway to do it to keep runoff from freezing over, how to keep garden hose from freezing over (during use and storage), minimum air temperature in my garage, and a few other parameters. It has become a scientific experiment which revolves around "freezing management".

One interesting tidbit, as long as there is some sun (more is always better), I could rinse off the salt at air temperature as low as 20F. I use this as a benchmark; during a bright and clear day with very little to no wind, the temperature limit can be lowered 1-2F. In all cases, the truck needs to sit in the garage for an hour and at a minimum air temperature of 40F to drain and dry.

I have buddies down south that simply answer with, "What is snow?". Haha funny guys. Hilarious. Wit like that deserves special recognition. I recommend staking out on an ant hill.

Wow, molasses with the brine? Do you have to wait for dang near spring to get that mess off/out of the crevices?

Here in the lower mainland of Vancouver they spray this sh*t on the road just because.

So annoying.

But what do you expect...

In my first winter in Canada I woke up one morning to see 1' of snow on the street.

Guess who made it on time with a 2 wheel drive Chevy Van to the company shop?

And guess who did not show up...because "...we don't drive in conditions like this..." and "...we have special wet snow in BC...". :banghead:

Out average temp (day and night) in Western NY State was 12.2 F this Feb and not one day above freezing. Talk about salt?

CT hasn't been a picnic with the 4-5 feet of snow and the severe cold (well below 32 degrees) weather. Heavy salt of the roads. It is going to be bad until all the snow melts. It suppose to be 40 degrees for the next few days. I just can't wait to wash my truck soon on these warm days. Might have to give it a coat of wax as well to help on the next few weeks.

They get it from the local sugar beet plant in town and is a pretty small percent of the brine mix. It's actually pretty amazing stuff. They spray the roads before the snow hits and when they plow it there is very little snow that sticks to the road. We used to have the problem of traffic packing down the snow and the side roads would stay covered and icy pretty much all winter, since they started to use this new mix a couple of years ago it's a noticeable difference. It isn't too bad to get off the paint but it really sticks to chrome wheels, need to use a little elbow grease to take off. The roads are white with the salty brine for a few days after they spray.

Well, living in Iowa, winters do suck, but I will take them over the 10 full years I lived in the Alaskan interior. Vehicle never got washed from Labor day to almost Memorial day the next year up there. But at least the didn't spray brine and salt around like they are trying to create a salt mine like Iowa does.

They do that shit in the People's Republic of Maryland too. Makes a hell of a deer lick. They LOVE it.

Two detergent passes with a pressure washer on the undercarriage gets it off.

Too bad we can't charge them for intentionally damaging our vehicles.

One of the min reasons I hate winter so much! Pretty lucky that I usually escape for a few months to Arizona!

Winter in Alberta though has actually been pretty mild! Nothing like you eastern folks!
