2014 Silverado off-road trans temp 230 F after 10 mins

I have a 6 inch lift and 37s on my 2014 Silverado. I was driving through some snow and mud for about 10 mins and started smelling something burning. The outside temp was 35. The smell was almost like a rubber band but I dont think it was my tires. It was mostly snow. This is not the first time after a short time off road that I have smelt this smell just dont know where it is coming from. I am planning to switch out the trans fluid and diff fluid with full synthetic just waiting for the spring. Has anyone else run into this problem. I traded a 2010 z71 4x4 for my 2014 z71 4x4 and never had this problem.

Probably the added weight making the trans work harder on the gears you have. Probably doesn't help that gm installed a thermostat on these transmissions either

You need 4.10 gears hope you have 3.42 or better 3.73 and not 3.08. You will take the load off the tranny with 4.10 or 4.56 gears and those tires.

Poor trans. You need 4.10 or 4.30 and a trucool 40K.

No 4.30 gears for these trucks. Most already have auxiliary coolers fir the trans

I thought he might like some extra get up and go with 4.30's. Aftermarket gears of course

Highway mileage will go to crap with the 4.56 gear ratio.

If he's rocking a 6inch lift with 37s I don't think mpg was to big of a concern...

As others aaid, 37s are putting way more strain on your Trans that's what's causing the high temps. I'd go 4.56 for gears. You may regret not going deep enough with the ratio, I don't think you'd regret 4.56

aren't the tranny and differential fluids already full synthetic?

Run 4 low...does the same thing as gearing when off road. I'm completely stock, and I run 4 low anytime I'm in deep enough the truck is working or towing a trailer back to the woods.

Yes they are and have been for 15 years on the 1/2 tons.

Not terribly worried about fuel I live 10 mins from work and there are 6 lights during the drive so MPGs were already shitty. My average for a work week pre lift was 12-13 after lift it's about 11-12 depending how I feel about work that day. I do plan on switching gears to mid 4s but not sure where to go and what all to get. I would love to do the work myself but I've heard its tough for someone that has never done it. My full synthetic comment I wasn't sure what fluid GM uses but I was going to swap for royal purple when I did the regear.
