Nervous about pulling the trigger due to the reported Transmission iss

In the past, I've had 2 Suburbans, an H2, a Tahoe, and an Escalade.. Last GM vehicle was in 2009, though. I've had several Fords recently (Expedition and a Mustang GT).

I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a '15 Silverado High Country 4x4 with the 5.3L engine. I's love the 6.2, but they are scarce right now.

The reported shifting issues on here with the transmissions are a bit nerve-racking.

I don't want to put a tune on and void the warranty...

So how bad is the transmission shifting issue really? Is it a luck of the draw matter? Or is pretty much everyone dealing with poor-shifting transmissions?

I read through a long thread about a beta test on a dealer flashed transmission program that was in "Beta Test", but it appears this went no-where.

I'm in Florida so all my driving is on flat and level roads. No hills or mountains to contend with on the roads. Mix of highway and city driving, and then perhaps some unpaved roads going camping in the woods.

I personally think its luck of the draw. By the sounds of your needs and wants, I wouldn't hesitate. The 15's don't seem to be as bad as the 14's. I'd buy your truck, have no regrets and enjoy the hell out of it. You have warranty if anything were to happen.

My '14 HC with a 5.3 shifts pretty good. There is that low speed clunk out of 2nd gear but nothing I can't deal with. Agreed with above though. You have warranty for a reason

I'm tending to think that customers who are happy and not having issues, are not seeking out a forum to post for solutions, to vent, and to complain.

So the percentage of overall users with issues appears exaggerated through the forum. (Not that there aren't genuine issues, complaints, and unhappiness).

Is there a consolidated site that lists all the TSB and recalls for the 2014/2015 model year Silverado/Sierra vehicles?

Its not bad at all, as you stated the people with bogus expectations tend to complain the most.

Test drive a truck overnight, put 100 miles on it. Its an expensive commitment and you should be happy with it before you make the purchase.

I love my truck, its totally stock.

Some larger dealerships have what's called the Chevrolet Experience. It's an extended test drive program. Ask about it. My 15 is awesome. I came from 20 years of Dodges. The Silverado is very nice.

I have a 10/14 build 6.2 8spd Silverado CC 4x4, 2200 miles so far, no problems except the low speed clunk on occasion. I plan on doing a tune as soon as BB has one ready. I drove mine about 50 miles before I bought knowing about the issues others were having. I've had a couple of vehicles over the last 5 years with various issues that I traded out of within 6 months of purchasing without losing much $ at all (09 G8 GT & 10 Ram). It is luck of the draw, but I feel like the tuners will improve the shifting on the 8 spd. Good luck!

Don't sweat it. Just get the truck.

eta: My '14 has been great.

I've had my Sierra almost a year now and no transmission problems at all.

Like someone said, take it overnight and put a few km on it before you pull the trigger.

If you have any doubt in your mind, do NOT do it. Thats just a well known life lesson.

There is alot of other issues with these trucks then just transmission.

Seems like an old lady I once knew. She heard someone had a health problem and suddenly she had it too. I've had my '14 5.3 six speed and no clunks, clanks, or other weird stuff. The truck has been perfect. I do run E 85 and don't baby it. Great performing truck. I've driven it up to and through the "Ike Tunnel" ( I -70 over the continental divide) like the guys on you tube. Not pulling a trailer I had to watch my speed because the truck had way more than adequate power at 2 miles altitude. My only concern would be vibration. A few of these have a vibration that can be hard to alleviate. Drive it up to 80 if it's smooth it's gonna be a good one.

I've posted this before but I'll say it again. This is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, and my first new Chevy was 40 years ago!

Same here have had my truck a year with 15,000 miles on it now and no tranny issues. The 6 speed shifts like a freakin vette when I put the power down on the 6.2. Its a beast!

Picked up my ordered max tow silverado Thursday. Had this concern too. To my surprise it shifts quite well and doesn't vibrate. So far I love it. 6E275485-62A1-4C29-A4B9-4206EDF7AB9B_zps

Thanks everyone... drove an LTZ with the 5.3 today. Felt a bet anemic at lower RPM. Now looking at a 6.2 to drive next...
