I AM NEW TO THE FORUM AND I'M SURE THIS HAS BEEN COVERED BEFORE, SO WITH THAT SAID I APPOLOGIZE FOR BRING IT UP AGAIN, I AM A FIRST TIME CHEVY OWNER AND I AM NOT A SATISFIED CUSTOMER, MY TRUCK MAKES THIS ANNOYING CLICKING / TICKING SOUND AT IDLE EVERY DEALER I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HAS TOLD ME IT'S NORMAL OPERATION SO I THEN WENT TO LISTEN TO ANOTHER TRUCK WITH THE 5.3 IN IT LIKE MINE AND SURE ENOUGH THE CLICKING WAS THERE. NOW I WORK AT A RAM DEALER AND I TRADED IN MY RAM FOR THE SILVERADO BECAUSE IT LOOKS GOOD AND HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT CHEVY, BUT NOW I REGRET BUYING IT BECAUSE OF THE TICKING NOISE IT SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD CAR THAT HAS A LIFTER PROBLEM, I REALLY THINK I MADE A MISTAKE BY TRADING IN MY RAM FOR A TRUCK THAT SOUNDS LIKE A JUNK CAR IN NEED OF REPAIR. DO YOU KNOW IF GM WILL ASSIST ME IN MAKING MY OWNER EXPERIENCE A GOOD ONE OR AM I JUST STUCK BECAUSE THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. I DO KNOW THE 6.0 DOES NOT MAKE THE TICKING NOISE LIKE THE 5.3 AND THE V6 ENGINES. SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GOOD IF ANY CAN BE. THANKS EVERYONE

You are probably just hearing the fuel injectors. Direct injection engines have very loud fuel injectors due to the high fuel pressure, go listen to any diesel at idle. The 6.0 wouldn't be making the noise as it's still the older engine design and has the fuel injected into the intake manifold. As well, a ram typically wouldn't the noise either as the hemi's aren't direct injected either.

DANMAN THANKS FOR RESPONSE, BUT IT SOUNDS MORE IN THE LOWER END NOT ON TOP OF ENGINE AND REALLY CANT HEAR IT WITH HOOD UP UNLESS YOU STAND NEXT TO THE FENDERS , UNLESS THE SOUND IS TRAVELLING DOWN TO THE LOWER END

Agreed it's normal. Mine does it too. I can hear it windows down in a drive thru (sound bouncing off the building)

My buddies Ram ticks and makes weird noises. Most hemis do. He's got 35k on it. All around the Web it is said to be normal and Ram wont do anything about it. Pick your poison. Both great trucks though

no need to yell and as others have stated it is probably the direct injection noise, or you can go with your own theory of every dealer in your area is against you. They/GM have came up the plan and are working together not to fix your truck.

6.2 ticks, first thinh I noticed when I test drove one before I ordered mine.

I know the hemi has a tick which is normal but nothing like my silverado i here the hemi tick everyday due to me working in a dodge service dept. And thanks to everyone that explained about the direct injection and for someone saying take it easy and dont have emotions in text did i address everyone here. Never have owned a chevy before always been a mopar guy just needed some answers

I'm thinking these motors are like Evinrude ETECs, Yamaha HPDIs, and Mercury Optimaxs in the boating world. High pressure fuel mist injection for more complete burn, more power, lower emissions.

Would make sense as the 4.3l went from 195hp/260ft lbs to 285hp/305ft lbs (with 230 of it 1200RPM(!)). Rather than throw some turbos on they bump the compression and do the VMAX thing.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

I don't think anyone was attacking you and if you are referring to my quit yelling comment, it was a joke and probably should have put a smiley or 2. The point is that you took the truck to multiple dealers and they said it was normal, then listened to another truck which also ticks.. so I'm leaning more towards it being normal instead of GM and the dealers trying to make your owner experience bad.

Dealers/service techs make money fixing peoples cars and while they claim they don't make as much money when they are under warranty I still think the techs would like to fix your truck if it actually had a problem. If you would rather take the word of some people online who haven't seen/heard your truck vs the actual people that work on these trucks that is fine. Both sources are saying the ticking is normal.

Might just be me, but peoples post who claim dealers don't want to help them just rub me the wrong way. Why would they not want to help? Why would they not want to try to make a customer happy? I am biased because every time I go to my gmc dealer I feel like I get treated like a king and they want my service work. (and to buy new cars in the future)

6.0 doesn't tick like the 5.3 and 6.2 DI engines because it used the older lower pressure injection system.

I have the 6.2 love it. No ticking noise but I run premium fuel. Absolutely no complaints here. Try running a full tank of premium, I work at a gm dealership, I swear it reduces the noise to nearly gone.

I love my dealer as well they take good care of me. Free oil change, tire rotation and if truck is dirty after they service it they wash it. Also instead of waiting for all that they give me a loaner I can drive instead of waiting. All that tho is most likely because I have 2 good friends that are service writers At my local GMC, Chevy dealer[emoji3]

Maybe you've got a special one. My 6.2 ticks and I've never run anything but 93 in it. My 5.3 ticks too, as it's been stated here already. It's normal, it's a characteristic of the DI engines. It's not just a GM thing, any DI engine is going to tick.
