Looking for actual numbers to see what or if there really was a gain in HP

anyone done a dyno with a drop in filter?

if you have please PM me as I need to make a decision on which avenue to stick with. Thanks
PS, please be sure to PM me or quote this so I know you commented. Thanks

Drop in filter will ammount to nothing at all.

Full Cai may be good for 5hp,maybe.

Imo, one of the worst bang for $ mods of all time.

Spend $100 more and get a tune.

I haven't seen anything. The answer could be it's worth 10-15 hp or more, or it could be worth zip. The 2014-15 intake duct is all new compared to earlier trucks. It could be better than an aftermarket for all we know. What we know is that an aftermarket duct makes a lot more noise.

If you do anything I'd personally just do the Airaid MIT tube only.

I think you need to read my post about my blown brand new 6.2 that if it were tuned, Id be out of pocket for the 10,000 rebuild.

I dont need a tune for a 425 hp motor.

Let me clarify.
I have the K&N CAI set up. And I like it. I like the sound and the looks.
However, my engine lost a valve spring and imploded the piston and rod through the block leaving a whole the size of a softball on the right bank and golf ball on the left bank.

GM gave me some grief over the K&N and even started mentioning voided warranty ect. Its been 3 weeks of fighting with them.
A good tech friend of mine was talking to me about the benefits or lack of for the K&N, so I am looking for actual dyno numbers to see if it really adds anything other than the sound and look, which to be honest was fine for me, I know the roto fab I ran in my 2010 camaro added real seat feel HP, The K&N might not have added anything, this is what I am after to decide if I wish to argue with GM everytime I go in for a warranty repair or if I just go back to the stock box and run the drop in.

The dealer refuses to re-install the K&N, so I either have to personally re-install it or go back to the oem set up, which again is why I am asking.

Looking for specific dyno numbers if anyone did a pull oem and a pull with the K&N
I am not interested in tuning the motor, in fact if I had done that I would be out over 10K at this point guaranteed. I dont need a ton more out out of a 420hp engine, I was after the look, sound and a little bit more performance, but if its all just sound and look it may be more reasonable to go back to oem to save the headaches from GM

I already have the K&N set up, I either can keep it or go back to OEM.

Got ya. Sorry, I miss read your post.

Keep it. You said you like it. It doesn't matter if it's faster or slower if you like it. Just keep in mind the k&n element has less filter area than the stock filter when unfolded. Yet it claims to flow more air. Cut a k&n filter apart, unfold it, and hold it up to light. There's some big holes.

That is BS that GM is trying to point the finger at the K&N. More so since if you own a new Camaro GM offers a CAI thru the performance parts catalog along with catback exhaust systems that you can have installed on your Camaro. It even goes on to say that no ECM reprogramming is needed for those items.

Personally I would have told GM that they had so many days to get the engine fixed and truck back in my possession or else the next step would be for my attorney to contact them. No way a CAI can, would or could cause a valve spring or any other mechanical failure in an engine. The worst you ever had to worry about with oiled filters was if you over oiled them they could coat the MAF element with oil which would cause road grime to stick to the element causing issues with the MAF reading airflow correctly. Now most all filters have swapped over to dry flow technology, even then with a wet filter you had to REALLY over do it to cause issues.

There is a thread on here started by BBP, they did dyno testing on a bunch of intakes vs stock. Last gen, but I would still think the results are close.

My suggestion: Dyno it yourself and find out. I cannot find many dyno numbers for K2XX trucks let alone any specific back to backs. I have an Airaid MIT personally because I prefer the better filtering paper filter. I'd be willing to bet the intake is worth more on a dyno than the catbacks everyone is buying.

In my opinion, if you just like the noise and no hassle from gm throw in an OEM box and pull the restrictor from the inlet to the fender and reseal it to the inner fender. Did it to mine, I have the cai noise and original filter. Also proven, K&N doesn't filter fine dust at all.

If I remember correctly the Airaid MIT tested the best in their testing...

Found the BBP Intake Test

The cold air intake product testing took place on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at our Dyno facility in Temecula.

First, I’d like to say a big thank you to our customer Jason Thomas who loaned us his vehicle (2008 Silverado 5.3L Flex Fuel) for the testing!

The truck was completely stock with 130,000 miles, and all testing was conducted with the hood closed to simulate real-world driving conditions. Gains reported are to the wheels as opposed to the crank.

Again, please note that we did not have anything to gain by this intake testing, nor did we have any bias for or against any of the companies’ products being tested. This was strictly an independent testing.

**Also please note that we sell all of the brands of intakes that were tested. For pricing, please email (<script cf-hash='f9e31' type="text/javascript"> /* */</script>) or PM me.

That all being said, here are the results. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, but please let’s try to keep all comments respectful and we definitely do not want to see any bashing of any of the tested products.
