Looking for Advice - HC or LTZ Z71 and 5.3 vs 6.2

Spent a few hours at the dealer today. Talked a lot and test drove their loaded-to-the-tits High Country in White Diamond. Beautiful truck, absolutely gorgeous. I did a credit app and am approved, all that's left to do is sign on the dotted line. They are holding the truck for me for 36 hours. I wanted time to think of it. I think going at the end of the month helped me.

I love the truck, but I dunno. It seems a little too flashy or something. There's a Z71 LTZ that has all the same options except the brown interior and painted bumpers, and it's $1,100 less than the HC. It has the 20" chrome wheels which look a lot better than the HC wheels IMO.

Basically, I am buying a truck within the next couple of days but am having difficult deciding... go all out with the HC (only $1100 more) or get the LTZ Z71, which with the chrome bumpers and different grille, just looks more like a truck.

Anyone on here have the HC? Wonder what it would look like lifted.

I also am interested in the 6.2L.. neither of these trucks have it. But there's some out there the dealer can get for me. Anyone have the 6.2L and is it worth it over the 5.3L?

Thanks y'all.

Personally I would go ltz with 6.2. I just don't care for the HC interior and the mileage difference is only about 1 mpg between the 2 motors.

I would go with the 6.2L for sure, either LTZ or HC.

LTZ vs HC is personal preference. I love my HC personally.

Most likely will need to order the 6.2. If you do plan to order, there are more options that may not be in dealer stock. i.e. Max Trailering, standard bed, 6.2 etc...

Both awesome trucks. Personally, I would get the 6.2. It's an awesome power plant and you will never regret having the extra power. As for the trim level, they are both loaded to the gill if only 1,100 separates them in price. Personally, I would go for the long term durability of the chrome bumper. If I went with the painted bumper I would feel a need to protect it with Expel Ultimate. Otherwise your painted bumper will take a beating very quickly from rock chips. Good luck. You have your sights set on two awesome trucks.

If you really like them both, flip a coin. Best two out of three. That's how I do it.

But seriously, you already stated you don't like the HC wheels and that leads me to infer that you would replace those while you might not replace the LTZ's. If so, you might factor replacement cost into your decision making.

Personally, I would go 6.2 and LTZ. Just don't like the HC interior and wheels. As others said, that's all personal preference, though, and I don't think anyone can make that decision for you.

Good luck.

I was in your spot a couple weeks ago... Actually had it down to 3 options (the same 2 as you plus a decked out Sierra SLT). I ended up with the LTZ Z71. The interior just felt more trucky to me. The HC was nice but I really didn't like the wheelset and was afraid I might grow tired of the interior over time. Both nice trucks. At the end of the day, styling is a personal preference, you're still getting a very nice rig either way

They have different suspensions, so I would strongly urge you to drive both to see which you prefer. Mine has the Z60 (same as the HC) and it is a bit wallowy at slow speeds and a tad harsh on rough pavement.

The 5.3 has plenty of power. Not sure that the 6.2 merits the extra money even though mine has it.

I don't understand the attraction of painted bumpers on a truck.

^^yes, important point actually and one I forgot to mention. I preferred the Z71 shocks (although they're not perfect and will eventually be swapped out, they're good enough for now).

Does the HC come with the same nifty extra-big LCD dash that the Denali does? I think that's kind of a neat feature. If all the HC is, is a different color interior and wheels (and you already stated you don't like the wheels)... then I'd save the $$$ and go LTZ.

As for 5.3 vs. 6.2 - I've been *really* impressed with the 5.3 in mine. I wanted the 6.2 when I was shopping (because MORE POWER!!!) but there weren't any available at the time. I don't regret the 5.3 at all - it tows great, seems to make plenty of power, scoots off the line nicely. LEAPS ahead of the 5.3 that was in my previous truck (2007 Avalanche).

That said, if I were shopping NOW (where 6.2's are more readily available) I'd still consider the 6.2, because you can never have too much power. Though I'd definitely want to drive one first... some folks here don't come away from the 6.2 as impressed as I would have expected.

No the LCD screen on the dash of the Denalli is only on the Denalli, the HC doesn't get it.

I will say go for the 6.2l as well. I don't even tow anything with mine and prob never will, but I was selling a 2008 Corvette and a 2010 Sierra AT in order to get my truck so I wanted the extra power so that I would be happy with my trucks performance until I am in a position to buy another Corvette.

Do you Like to go Fast? Get the 6.2 because it is fast, I did not even know how fast it is for a truck till a few days after we got it. the 5.3 Max tow has the same or better towing capacity depending on gears.

If you like the Brown interior get the high county, not much difference between the LTZ and the HC, interior and heated steering wheel maybe?

We got the 6.2 because we wanted the power to tow a 2 horse trailer and I like to drive fast

We got the brown interior because my wife thought it looked good with her buffalo leather saddle and Brownstone metallic exterior we wanted.

2014 6 speed, I have not driven an 8 speed but I think that I read that the 8 speed makes it a little slower to 60MPH
