Leveling kit and warranty

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the link, looks like a lot of good info in there. At the moment though, I don't have time to read all 150+ pages, so for anybody else out there, does these leveling kits violate the factory warranties?

Thanks guys

No. If you had a strut issue or some issue with the suspension then those parts would come into question and could be denied warranty if they failed prematurely. I've had level kits on several trucks I've owned and the dealers never had an issue.

I just had a front lower ball joint fail with a RC level on and my dealer didn't even hesitate to fix it. It really all depends on the dealer.

Good for you, but the dealer is either royally F'ing people on the sales end or is in the business of losing money - the ball joint failed because of the lift kit, no doubt lol!

Then again, I guess the dealer doesn't pay for it anyhow, goes through corporate GM dime, so in the end he keeps customers happy and coming back, but not all dealers are created equal.

On your '14 Silverado? Or an older truck you also have?

It depends on the dealer, GM's stand point is any modifications to the suspension after the factory can cause them to not cover suspensions issues. Also owners with vibration issues that have lifts are also exempted from the vibration analysis process as well.

I would say make sure to make a good relationship with your dealer and service department, they will go the extra mile for you if you do.

I ask b/c I removed my level kit for that reason. Heard/read too many stories about fighting with dealers about warranty claims, etc. Once I'm out of warranty, I may put it back.

Question is, is the ball joint, etc part of the powertrain or bumper to bumper warranty? I'm thinking it's the 3/36 bumper to bumper part, though the ball joint IS connected to the powertrain and is a pretty important part.

Balljoint is B2B, powertrain only covers the engine, transmission and rear end.

On my 14 w 17k miles now

Wow. I'm at 18k right now. Guess it's a good thing I did take it off. Not saying it caused or would cause a problem, I just don't want to deal with a bunch of mess if I had a claim denied. Glad your dealer is working well with you. I've got a great dealer, but I'd rather not put them in that situation.

IF anything it would void parts of your warranty on the suspension. Will something break who knows, will they cover it again, who knows thats a risk you take. If you keep up with the news and or have been in new cars and dealers lately, you will know they are clamping down on warranty claims.

I asked this very question to a friend of mine who happens to be a service writer at the dealership before I installed my level and he told me, without hesitation, that warranty is covered to 4 inch lift. Beyond that and its yours.
