Some 2004 model changes

Recommended Posts

Got this info from a friend at GM.

Silverado will have 4 trim levels, the current "Base", LS, and LT, plus a new stripped out version called "Work Truck" trim level.

The 1500HD designation will disappear and this CC model will now be in the 2500-series (where it probably belonged all the time).

A new SS truck will be available, basically a 1500 series weight size with a "high output" 6.0L engine, dressed up with "performance" features.

"Pewter" and "Carmine Red" paint will disappear, and there will be 3 or 4 new paint colors.

Some new fuel options in gas engines --- ethanol, LNG if I remember right.

I hope that GM makes the 1500HD a 2500 CrewCab and stop the confusion on what it really is. I like the Pewter color and hope they keep it or something similar. Does anyone know the difference between the base model and the Work Truck?

The 1500HD will definitely be rebadged as the "2500 Crew Cab" for 2004.  Also, the new colors are "Sandstone Metallic", "Silver Birch", and "Sport Red Metallic".  I haven't found any samples of the colors yet.  Another new thing: 17" x 7.5" wheels will be optional on 1500's (as well as the current 17" Tahoe/Sub Z71 wheels).  I haven't found pics of these yet either.

:werd: I hope they don't take the pewter color away...my girlfriend is planning on buying a 2004 tahoe in that color.  If they didn't have that color she wanted to buy an explorer, but I have persuaded her that a Tahoe is better.  Pewter is by far the most popular color Chevy sells (although I don't have it).  Who knows...maybe they are just renaming it to something different.  Also, does anyone know if they are planning on changing the front end of the Hoe's/suburbans?  It seems like these two always fall 1 year behind the silverados in terms of body changes.

This had some info on the new Tahoe options.  And if you cut all but the main web site address it says more info will be available after 14Apr.

He mentioned that the "Work Truck" level would be very plain-Jane, things like cheaper radio, no cruise control, no chrome (painted bumpers and wheels), etc.

Hmmmmm.......  my '93 S10 in upscale "Tahoe" trim level had black grill, painted bumpers, etc.  Now that upscale paint scheme is available at the "Work Truck" level.  Sunuvagun!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but back in the early 90's, the base was exactly that....The lowest level you could get.

The W/T was pretty much base, with a few exeptions that are needed for a "working" truck. Like a V8, and a towing package. Without all the power options, they could sell a full-size with a V8 at a bargain.

Again, this is from my sketchy memory of the early 90's.....

This is the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD site.  Click on "New for 2004" and a summary window comes up.  This has links to the new colors under "new features."

I was able to see all three colors, although it's hard to tell exactly what they look like.  The Silverado, Tahoe, etc sites don't display these.

Ummm, as far as this base and work truck is concerned from what has been described they are one in the same.  You can get a base truck which has vinyl or cloth, rubber floor, no options, crummy radio, and basically has no options.  So, that would be the same as the "work truck" that everyone has been describing.

And the GMC work truck really is not a work truck, in fact it's more like an LT w/ rubber flooring instead of carpet.  It's got leather buckets, heated/cooled center console, etc...  I think it has a few dress up items too.  Price wise you're spending about as much as you would for an LT version.

I don't really see how they could have a Work Truck and a Base Model since they would be one in the same.

I'm sure there will be a few difference's between the two packages...I can think of one for sure (just like the 90's model), the work truck version will most likely have the W/T sticker...
