Okay....I will play.

Since you want to focus on the speed I was driving at and not the real subject of this thread, I will also let you know that I took it on up to 122 mph. I survived, you survived and no unicorns or kittens were put in harm's way Do you feel safer now? .

LOL! Seriously dude, while I couldn't possibly be more on your side, you might as well leave it be. The soapbox ministers would get their panties in a wad if you were doing 66 on the bonneville salt flats as you were clearly putting your life and everyone in Kansas at mortal risk.

Oh, I know...And I probably shouldn't feed the trolls, but they caught me in a playful mood this morning and since internet keyboard jockeys can be SO gullible when they know absolutely nothing about the circumstances, I have a tendency to play to their imagination.

I just said you opened yourself up for it, I really don't care how fast you want to drive.

what i dont get is the new 8 speed 6.2 limited to 100 mph where as my 2014 was 110

fact is before i had a 3.42 rear end now i have a 3.23 which = less rotational speed at 110 mph so why the limitation on a truck with a lower drive shaft speed?

I think you hit the nail on the head with tires, GM went as cheap as possible with the good year tires and they're paying the price with all these vibration claims. Simply put they do not balance well at all. Which is why so many people on the vibration thread are getting new tires under warranty. Also who needs to go more than 100mph in a 4x4 truck.

The same guys who lift their diesels 8+ inches, throw on 35+ inch MUD TERRAIN tires and they rarely see gravel. An all too common sight in Alberta... :nonod:

H,V,Z,W,(W),Y,(Y) are all rated over 130 your truck should have come with standard option tires H+

Common Sense test. If your truck can pull 5000+ lbs down the highway at speeds in excess of 55 mph without

it flying off the road at the first bend in road your driveshaft will handle doing 130 without load (caveat is if you

dont have harmonic imbalance which would be noticeable at certain lower speeds as well)

Rollover? Usually attributed to being scared and jerking the steering wheel because you drove beyond your own skill

and capability -or- center of gravity of vehicle was raised to a point that you shouldnt have been trying to go fast in the first place.

Not usually attributed to Driveshaft imbalance.

The digital speedo will stop registering speeds over 100mph, but that does not mean you are not gaining more speed. Note to GM

Why put an analog speedo that registers beyond 100 mph if you limit it at that speed? That would be a cost savings I would think,

or are you limiting the speed because of government restraints on vehicles not deemed sports cars?

Not trying to be a smartass but your 14/15 truck is capable of a lot more than you might think. Now if we were talking a truck from the 70's and 80's you might be pushing your luck over 100....but with the right components it will do just fine.

No limiter on my truck (except arrow and a need for more horsepower). I will just leave it at that.

ProPhoto sorry for the Hi-Jack brother!

If you want to go faster than the speed limiter just get it disabled. This is much easier to do than try to convince GM to remove it on their end. As the truck sells right now both Goodyear options are only S-speed rated (112mph) Obviously, we know the tires will not magically disintegrate once they go over this limit but its still a liability to them, and these particular tires probably met their criteria to net the highest possible mpg.

And while you and I and Photo are probably excellent drivers with cat like reflexes, your typical buyer is probably not and the stability control system is probably not calibrated at those speeds.

I think it just comes down to liability and what GM think their buyers are looking for. I know top speed wasn't even on my top 20 "must haves" and its something that can be easily taken care of if needed.

Standard was a mistake, I meant Standard option. If you do not have standard wheels, you package should have been upgraded with upgraded tires as well. The dealership where my truck was delivered, you would be hard pressed to find a set of good years on a sierra. I think that might be a regional thing. Bridgestones across the lot for anything with 20's and or 22's.

Sorry that your top 20 didn't include speed. The propensity for speed was in my top 3. And for those of you that think trucks were not designed to go fast, explain NASTRUCK. And I am sorry but a supercharger package isn't just for towing. You should have bought a Diesel if that was your reason for getting a supercharger.

My limiter has been removed, my statement was rhetorical in that it's not permanent and was placed there as per regulatory reasoning.

As per GM:

The StabiliTrak system works by recognizing the start of an understeer or oversteer condition. Sensors detect the difference between the direction the driver is actually turning and the vehicle's response by "reading" the steering wheel position, the amount of sideways force in place, vehicle speed and how the vehicle is turning. When necessary, the system automatically applies precise amounts of brake pressure at individual wheels and reduces the engine torque to help the driver keep the vehicle on track. These brake and engine interventions help realign the vehicle's path with that being steered by the driver.

As a standard option (never heard anything or seen anything different) you can turn this joker OFF!

Liability....on who GM? If YOU crash your truck it's YOUR fault. Most definitely YOUR fault if you were speeding! No where in this country is the speed limit marked greater than 85 that I know of, so liability is not a factor on GM at all.

....now don't get me wrong, my truck is not the be all end all of what i drive for speed. My truck is fast, and faster than most, but is still my daily driver. My Sunday driver is my Sunday driver, and although for the most part I obey traffic laws, I don't believe I put anyone else's life in danger other than my own, and I take full responsibility for my own actions.

Thank you. And refreshments will be served on your way out.

I think you are taking this too personal. I'm just making assumptions as to why GM and every other manufacturer has a top speed limit on their vehicles, since you asked a few posts up. Inherit safety, liability, added cost, and a components not calibrated to those speeds just makes the most sense. There is a reason why cars such as your Mustang have a much higher top speed limit compared to your 6.2. Making sure components will not fail at those speeds, higher rated tires, adequate suspension, etc, these are all items that add overall cost to the product.

But I'm sorry, but when I went to buy my pickup I really couldn't care less if it was capable of doing 150mph+ down the highway. I wanted it to be quick, be able to haul a trailer, and get me from point A to point B. And when I was cross shopping pickup trucks the thought of my Sierra being capped at 98mph, and a F150 at 105mph never crossed my mind.

Just to make it clear this has nothing to do with ProPhoto going at whatever speed he was going because we've all done it. I've driven 100+ in my truck and its been fine and the chances of my tires just magically disintegrating are pretty slim.

I don't take this personal at all.......

...I never asked anything of GM

...I made a rhetorical statement which you still don't seem to get

...DOT/GOVT regulations are more of a reason to limit the speed of a vehicle than worrying about part failure, I do concede that a part may wear out faster than its 5 year warranty, but blowing the carbon out every once in a while has never caused my driver seat to shift for no apparent reason. Heck there have been more seat issues than blown engines from what I can tell.

...my point to you is don't make assumptions for other people. You seem to have purchased your truck for the same purposes I bought my firewood truck for all too many years ago. This is not why I purchased my truck. And I am sure there are many others on here that rather drive a nice truck with all the benefits of a car and then some....if you cannot understand that, then explain to me and everyone else why they don't just make one trim level? Don't say cost because that is irrelevant to many people for the simple reason that if there was only one version available many of us would still buy it regardless of what it costs. It's a matter of choice and what people in general feel is important to them regardless of what you may think or assume.

...and on that note I will leave it be, unless you want to make some more assumptions for me and others....

I don't get this statement at all. I never said going faster than necessary would cause pre-mature wear on other parts. My comment on why manufacturers limit top speed on certain vehicles is based on the assumption that they do not design a vehicle for that treshold the same way they don't design cars to have higher towing capabilities. Its a different vehicle segment. Your typical truck buyer does not care to go over 100mph.

I never made assumptions for other people either, I don't know where you are getting all this stuff from. I don't care why you purchased your truck, as that reason is a different reason than probably every other member here. I don't think you have been reading my posts at all. I realize everyone gets a truck for a different reason and that's why you can get them in all sorts of different configurations. I don't care if someone takes their truck at whatever speed. None of that concerns me.

My statement, as its been from the beginning, is trying to explain why manufactures place speed governors on trucks, that's it. Nothing more and nothing less. I'm not here badgering anyone for wanting to go fast in their truck everyone an do as they please.

You cannot say this is not an assumption when you use the core word in your statement.

.........."My comment on why manufacturers limit top speed on certain vehicles is based on the assumption that they do not design a vehicle for that treshold the same way they don't design cars to have higher towing capabilities.".....

Here you assume that every other member bought their truck for the same reason I did, and that I have not read your posts. I assure you I have read your posts.

.........." I don't care why you purchased your truck, as that reason is a different reason than probably every other member here. I don't think you have been reading my posts at all. "

Here you assume that you know EXACTLY why there are limiters on the trucks

.........."My statement, as its been from the beginning, is trying to explain why manufactures place speed governors on trucks"

I don't know the exact reason there is a limiter, but I do know that you don't either.Period.

What is standard on this truck? I searched tirerack for 255/70R17 (a guess) and the highest speed rating I found was T.

The cheapest Ts were $8 more than the cheapest Ss. I know GM negotiates quantity deals and such, so this is ballpark at best, but $8 over 500,000 trucks/yr works out to $4 million/yr. Speed limiting the trucks to save on tires certainly seems plausible.

    • Hello All!   My 2019 Colorado 3.6 LT, 4WD Crew Cab has approximately 77,500 miles and I recently began experiencing the well-known transmission shudder between about 30 and 65 mph. The problem had worsened to the point that I could no longer attribute it to road conditions - and I had decided to bring the truck to the dealer - when recently, I experienced a sudden loss of power while driving at maybe 40 MPH. Several warning lights flashed, the “Check Stabilitrack” message appeared, and the Check Engine, Stabilitrack, and Traction Control icons remained illuminated. The truck regained driving power, but it stayed in a low gear with unusually high RPMs for the speed. (limp mode?) Because I was only about two miles from home, driving slowly, I was able to make it back and run an OBD-II scan, which showed fault codes U0101, P0700, and U0100. My next trip in the truck was to drive it to the dealer the following day. That trip began normally, but after about a mile I experienced another loss of power, along with the same warning lights and the same “Check Stabilitrack” message. As before the truck remained driveable, but again operated at an abnormally high RPM-to-speed ratio and seemed stuck in a single gear. About a mile later, the dashboard lit up once more, this time displaying “Check 4WD.” Soon after that, I arrived at the dealer. I have verified that the truck still has its original factory transmission fluid, which means it has never received the corrective fluid exchange outlined in GM Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355.  That was Thursday of last week and I've heard nothing yet from the dealer.    According to Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355 and the build date of my truck, my truck should have the newer LV fluid. I've done a little research and read something about a problem with the wiring harness as well.   Anyone have an insights into this situation?  Thank you!!

Check out this site:  https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621   A graph will pop up to show where the US imports their oil from.  Notice that there isn't a lot of import from OPEC and Iraq.  Most of the US import comes from Canada. The US oil produces are selling their oil on the open market, which is why the US fuel costs went up.  So you're correct, the US oil companies are going to slow walk the price downward.
