Standard Maintenance not standard?

There is an option for something like a "Fleet Service Maintenance Delete" or something like that which will REMOVE the "included maintenance" and credit you for about $175. Make sure that your truck did not have the maintenance option removed.

I think everyone, just just us but most all new vehicle owners, are missing this little aspect. The "free service" is not free. It is part of the purchase price and therefore actually pre-paid service that you are actually financing. My wife recently took her 2014 Pathfinder in for service and ended up trading in for a 2015 model (don't get me started on the absurdity of it, this is the third time she has done this). On the big long sheet/contract that shows all of the pricing breakdown, it actually showed that they reduced the selling price by $240 and then added it back on as a three year service option.

As mentioned above, it is simply a "carrot" that they are trying to use.

Its a great way to sell cars for them. I don't blame them. People bring in there old car (2 years old) and they say stuff like "Looks like its outta free service after today" or " Almost outta your bumper to bumper warranty" and many people will start looking at a new car.

Knowing many sales men in my family they say its really easy to sell a car this way. Apparently John above has his wife doing this.

I have concerns about the quality of the dealerships oil. On my last truck, I switched right away to Mobile 1. After doing a lot of research, I then changed to Amsoil. It is simply the best. Not saying that Mobile 1 is not good, it is. Amsoil is just better. Lot's of data to back that up, but use whatever you are comfortable with.

The build sheet is attached. Fleet service is definitely not in there, plus if it were would the window sticker not also reflect that, as the factory prints the sticker, not the dealer or anyone else?

I didn't waste any of my time waiting on the dealer to change my oil. I can have my oil changed in my driveway faster than I could get my truck in the waiting line at the dealer. OK, so I lost out on ~$200. The hour or three per change I would waste waiting on someone there to do it is worth way more than that. Plus I KNOW that the right oil went in and the plug wasn't stripped. Dealer will only give you the dexos1 blend, not full synthetic.

I bought this truck fully aware that that free maintenance "carrot" they were waiving was a damn joke.

That's cool and all, and I do my own oil changes on my other cars, but if the first 4 are free and don't require me to get dirty, why not? Who knows I may not keep this truck past a year? I won it and I may sell it to pay down debt after I finish moving.

YMMV. I am not knocking anyone else for taking "advantage" of waiting on their included dealer service. I was just stating my personal thoughts on the matter that it ain't worth MY time. Your time might be worth that $50 worth of free ac delco oil and filter. And that's OK with me.

Heck my wife works for the dealer so I just drive a different car to work and she drives the truck literally cost me no time haha

Directly from Chevrolet's website:

  • Replace engine oil and oil filter (excludes Spark EV)
  • A thorough 27-point vehicle inspection provides a detailed assessment from Chevrolet Certified Technicians
  • 4-wheel tire rotation (excludes dual rear wheel vehicles, all Corvette models and select Camaro models – ZL1 model and 1LE package cars – due to their unidirectional tires. See the Owner’s Manual for details.)

Covers only scheduled oil changes with filter and tire rotations according to your new vehicle’s recommended maintenance schedule for up to 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Does not include air filters. Maximum of four service events. See participating dealer for other restrictions and complete details.

As far as being charged for it. My Windows Sticker clearly states 'ITEMS FEATURED BELOW ARE INCLUDED AT NO EXTRA CHARGE IN THE STANDARD VEHICLE PRICE SHOWN' and then lists this maintenance plan along with the other warranties with no assigned dollar value. When I purchased my vehicle and read through the paperwork I did not see a printed option that allowed this plan to be deleted. My guess is Chevrolet builds it into the price of the MSRP; I doubt it's truly free.

What I never understood is Cadillac offers a similar maintenance plan but with the addition of an 'Engine air cleaner filter replacement' and a 'Passenger compartment air filter replacement'. Our trucks with stickers that can break $50K gets a lesser maintenance plan than a $35K Cadillac ATS. I'm not crying about it, just something that stood out to me.

With the new vehicles, it definitely seems GM has the oil change prices factored right into the final MSRP of their vehicles.

You guys who bought new trucks might as well let the dealerships change the oil since you are paying for it no matter what.

Remember, when it comes to these vehicles, NOTHING is free. Somehow we have already paid for this "free" service.

If you want full synthetic oil just take it with you and they should not have any issue using the fluids you want. As long as its paid for, they should use what you request.

Yes, the maintenance is included in the "regular" price, but that doesn't mean you can't remove it and reduce the price.

We can have GM (or any manufacturer) include any items we want in the "free" maintenance, as long as we pay for it. :)

Update:

Called again on Friday, basically the selling dealer shrugged responsibility because it was a courtesy delivery ordered by my contacts at GM because of the prize. So now I was forced to FAX, not email over my build sheet and window sticker. The fact that GM cannot accept an email PDF boggles my mind to no end. Currently on the phone to see if that fax was received since I was not called upon receipt of the fax like I instructed on my cover sheet.
