Going for an LS instead of an LT?

Hey guys,

Looking at my local dealers, it seems that I can save $2-3K by opting for the LS trim instead of the LT trim. That's for similarly equipped trucks (5.3 DC 4wd)

I've been taking stock of the major differences between the two trim lines, and as far as I can tell, these are the most significant differences (that I personally care about):

--LS has a floor-shift 4wd system, while the LT has the knob. I asked about this in a previous thread, and everyone indicated that there's really no difference between the two systems. The knob is just a convenience.

--LS doesn't have fog lights. I guess they'd be nice to have, but the car I've been driving for 10 years doesn't have them and truthfully it's never bothered me.

--Smaller LED screen in the cab. I admit I'm a sucker for a big pretty screen, so I'd be kind of bummed about having the smaller one. But if it does all the same things I guess I'd get used to it. I don't really care about Sirius or navigation.

Just wondering if I missed anything else significant? Has anyone else ever opted for the LS over the LT, and do you have any regrets?

Thanks in advance!

I basically have the base model of the Sierra. I regret not getting an SLT because more of the options are more of a convenience.

The manual seat adjuster, cannot adjust pedals for wife, stupid boost seat in the front, smaller screen, no sensors on the bumpers, side mirrors cannot fold in for small spaces, blind spot sensors. All these things come in handy for me and I wish I got them instead of just looking at the price.

go for the LT, If you already like the 8" screen instead of the 4.2" you will spend half of what you saved just to upgrade it. Plus other features such as the 4wd knob which is just a cleaner look overall.

The smaller screen doesn't do the same things. The 8" is touchscreen while the 4.2" isn't. You might as well spend the extra money on the LT. When you divide it between the monthly payments it's nothing noticeable. Plus if you're like me, you'll see someone else 8" and see what all it does so you'll end up upgrading to the 8". The floor shift over the dash knob can be good, but I believe there's been people on here that says it's clunky while the knob is very smooth. Plus the knob gives you auto 4x4 so when it snowed and is melting you can put it on auto so it can switch between 2 and 4hi. My area it's great because I have a lot of hills and there's always patches of snow, ice or slush since it usually snows at night and melts during the day and then refreezes at night.

For me the deal breaker on considering the LS was the smaller screen in the dash. I test drove the LT and a base model LS and it was night and day between the two. If I could have gotten an LS with the larger touch screen I would have gone that route.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I know I'm trying to convince myself that the smaller screen wouldn't bother me, but I think it would. I test drove an LT a few months ago, and man....I loved that interior. I guess I need to just keep a lookout for good rebates as the 2016's start rolling in. I'm not opposed to going used, either....it's just that from what I've seen these trucks are holding their value quite well and it hardly saves you anything to go used.

That right there is a MAJOR difference in the trim levels. Something to think about if you live in a snowy area.

You'll most likely go crazy with the lower trim truck. I went nuts with a loaded SLE and sold it to my Dad to get a fully loaded SLT. Much happier now.

And my Dad loves the SLE as his "ranch truck". Lol! Damn nice ranch truck!

With rebates you can probably get an LT with all star for less than the LS.

That is true, at least it was about this time last year when I was shopping around. My truck is just my weekend mall crawler/hunting truck and didn't really need the extra stuff. Priced several base model Silverado's but the rebates on the LT with all star either equal in price or cheaper than the LS. I got prices on both trims from multiple dealerships and I was better off going with the LT and happy I did.

Sounds like you are in the same predicament as myself. The new LS is a sharp-looking truck, but the more i look at the options and the interior I feel like I would have buyer's remorse because I was trying to save $2-3K. What actually got me to not like the LS anymore was the steering wheel (yeah I know sounds stupid) because it doesnt have the steering wheel controls on the right hand side, and just a blank off panel.

You can upgrade Work Truck to LS, but from LS to LT you need to spend more with after market part or OEM part ( will pay alot for labor ). Here are some part to upgrade from LS to LT if you want to.

+ SILVERADO FACTORY MYLINK® GPS NAVIGATION RADIO IO6 HMI MODULE WITH TEXTING ( $1000 for part + Labor )

+Wheels and tires ( atleast $1400 + labor )

+ LT grill ( $100 + DIY )

+ Powered seat driver side ( don't know where to buy but this is an option )

+ Steering wheel for LT ($100 on ebay +labor)

+Fog light ( $50 + labor or DIY )

+ Door handle match color with body or you can get chrome ones ($50)

So get Work truck and upgrade to LT or just get and LT is the better way. That is my think
