heated seat question

i got a 2014 gmc truck like mine for my employee

i have a 2014 silverado that are the same truck and options except his does not have heated seats her goes

pulled the trim of his around the screen and sure enough the wiring was there

after inspection of the seats all the wiring is the same

installed my trim with the heated buttons on his and nothing ,no lights or heat

does the screen need to be reflashed at dealer?

any help would be great

I doubt the seats have the heater element, but check them out and see. If they do, I guess they forgot to add the switch on her truck. Might need to have the BCM flashed at the dealer to make it work too if in fact she does have the heating elements in the seats.

I believe re-flash will be required because having the heated seats come on with Remote Start is a controllable option in the Vehicle Settings area of the menu. The "no lights" on the switches is likely because the heating elements are not present.

 

Those aren't a "no cost" to put into every truck like the wiring harness (it's cheaper to put the full harness in every truck than it is to have to manufacture and use different harnesses in different trucks).

I'm curious to see what you find out. I just noticed the wires on mine the other day and would love to find out what it would take to get it working. If all of the wiring and modules are present and I just need the trim, switches and heating element along with a reflash, I may do this upgrade.

 

You said that the wiring on the seats are the same as the other truck. Is there a way to find the end of the connector to know that it is there (I doubt the actual elements are there)?

Not a chance. I tried this with my '14 SLE. All the trucks have the harness behind the trim panel. The seats have different wiring harnesses. There are 6 part numbers for the driver side harness, and 4 for the passenger side.

 

There are no elements in the seats either. There are 2 in each seat, for the trucks that have them. Each seat also has a "controller"; a small black box that the elements plug into, and the harness plugs into.

 

And forget modding the switches. They are "soft switches" , fully IC, nothing mechanical. There are 3 PCB's in each switch, all integrated into the CAN bus to control heating the seats with the remote start.

 

If you want heated seats, you have two options:

1: Aftermarket

2: Buy a truck with them factory installed
