I was offered the use of my friends lift.

We have done this same thing using a 2x12 across the bed and a chain hoist. It is very simple then.

A good way of doing it! I assume it was easier & quicked then under and dropping the tank. I remember a while back reading posts where people that owned Suburbans, Tahoes, and Avalanches would do it themselves but, do it another way. That by going inside the truck via the drivers side rear second row seating. They would peel back the carpet and cut out a section of floorboard to access the top of the tank. Do the work and weld the cut section back and reinstall the carpet. Just saying. And NO........I am not recommending that!! I would never do that on my truck!!

Did the same thing in my old s10. But with the use of a hoist it's really not that hard to drop the tank.

Either lift box, or drop tank. Box lift looks easier.

 

No to cutting box.

the hole cut trick is good on the pickups too... but I insisted on making a frame, and being sure of strong cross sills.

 

it seems a frame could go in and be supported by the crossmembers.

 

adding 10below, a north wind, and parked in a snow pile to find no start for a bad fuel pump..

never again. I hacked a hole.

had the bed off this summer upside down, new cross sills...added the frame for tank cover.

 

while on this subject..the tire dangling underneath. never again. Hacked that out too.
