I posted this same topic shortly after I purchased my new '14 Silverado work truck. During temperatures where neither a/c or heat is required, if you opt for recirculated air (pretend you are driving past a miles long feedlot in western Kansas) the a/c compressor comes on you have to turn up the temp knob to override the a/c cold air. There is no real "off", you either get outside air or conditioned recirculated inside air. With gas prices back near 2 bucks it's not a real big concern, but let gas prices get back up to 4 bucks, you bet I am going to figure out how to shut the compressor off when not needed.

Press the AC button so the light is off and the compressor will not run.

That is not the case with mine. I turn off the AC button but as long as the system is in auto recirc mode then the AC is running.

If your truck is a 2014 take it in and have the update done to the HVAC control module, it will correct the issue.

Fan off and vent set to recirculate mode.

I can't believe that people don't use this advise...
