CanyonRunner Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 With all this talk of DI engines being coked up so early, and needing intermediate Induction servicing or even manual cleaning of the intake valves, what about water/methane injection?I have used it before on diesels, and it does help keep the engine A LOT cleaner, almost like steam cleaning. This when sucked into intake inlet will be rinsing over the intake valves (that do not currently see fuel now) will help keep the buildup from even forming in the first place. It does also have HP benefits on a NA engine with the equivalent of using lower octane full and having the W/M raise it per-say (92/93) engine will alter timing just like it does now with E85, 87, 93. It will also be cooling the incoming intake charge.I am not looking at this for HP though, that may just be a side effect. I already have an Elite catch can now, but am seriously considering this. I have seen where LT1 owners and other people with other manufactures GDI engines are starting to do this and they even make kits for them. Just nothing really anywhere on the Silverado/Sierra. What do you all think? Anyone here currently running a setup?

det Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 The cleaning effect of water/meth has been proven all over in different car communities. The only thing I'd question is if that effect would start in the intake ports and hit the top of the valve. I know during combustion the water is turned to steam and cleans the combustion chamber and exhaust valves. I have half a kit from an old turbo car I used to own. Maybe one day I'll get the missing parts and give it a shot.

00Silverado4x4 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I need to get a system like this just to do an initial clean out of the engine so I don't have to take it apart. This engine runs great and strong but I know it still has a lot of carbon build up that I'm still getting rid of.

Suspect carbon build up on the piston has increased the CR. Pouring some water into the intake while running a hot engine cools the piston and causes the carbon to come off. This does work BTW... - Injecting water into a turbo engine to reduce pre-detonation. Also mostly back in the carb days. Also known to work. I am not a believer that it will clean your intake or valves. I don't see it reacting with the valve train in the same fashion. Just don't inject too much and cause hydro-lock...

The question I have then would be, how would I get water into my intake safely on my fuel injection engine? Spray bottle on mist maybe? I'm really curious if this is something that I can do as I know my engine has carbon build up.
