Fogs to Match Morimoto 5500K HID's

I have searched and read threads until my eyes have felt like they were bleeding, and I still cant figure out what I need to do. I have ordered the 5500K 35 Watt Morimoto HID "Sierra Spec" kit, and now I need to decide on my fog lights because I can't stand for them not to match.

I see morimoto has come out with the full housing replacement LED fog setups for Sierras. However, the lights themselves seem black in appearance, and I haven't seen any pictures of the housings mounted in the day time with the lights off. They probably match the 5500K HID's quite well, but I am not sure if they are entirely necessary. Does anyone have pictures of these lights installed in the day time and night, with 5500k HID's in the HL's?

I looked into VLED replacement bulbs, but I cant figure out which will match the 5500K HL's the best, 5k or 6k? As of now, the VLED 5000k's for the "2014+ vehicles" are out of stock until the 11th anyway, but I am afraid the 6000 K's will be too blue. What is the difference in 2007-2013 5202 bulbs and the 2014+ 5202 bulbs anyhow?

I am really just trying to derive a final answer here so I can get the right stuff ordered and be done with it, not order and instal every different LED fog set up there is and have to switch anything out more than once. I have also made my mind up on the Morimotto 5500K 35 watt HID's for the HL's, so no need to argue for LED's or different HID's in the HL's either.

Finally, thank yall for any experience and advice you are able to provide. I appreciate it.

Yes, twice, and it didn't show me how the replacement housings looked during the day time in relation to the stock HL's. In other words, I am afraid the black appearance of the morimoto housings wont look right in relation to the reflective look of the stock GMC head lights. The stock fogs have the reflective lens, or chrome look to them. Not black. I am anxious to see how the whole truck looks with the lights off in the day time with the replacement lights versus stock. I have no doubt that the Motto's give me the best illumination, but want to be sure its a look I will enjoy.

I'm going the same route: Morimoto LED fogs and HIDs. Because they're from the same company, I would imagine they should be pretty darn close. The LED fogs also pump-out 1200 lumens per side - more than twice the current halogen output. Put it this way, if you don't swap the fogs, the difference will be very noticeable! :) I think you'll find they'll be very close in colour temp - if not identical. The only question is whether the DRL/LEDs will match in colour temp; however, given the output, the LEDs will be less noticeable.

I've been mulling this all over due to cost: ~$400 USD (I live in Canada and our dollar is tanking). This is an upgrade I have to make to a brand new, 2015 truck that has candles for headlamps. I was absolutely shocked at how pathetic the headlamps on my $55K truck are. Unacceptable performance on dark, rural roads.

I've got the morimoto Sierra spec 5500K and morimoto dogs, they are made to work together

I see you have an Iridium AT as well, would you mind snapping some pics of your front end in the day time with the lights off? I am trying to see if I like the smoked look of the Morimotto fogs combined with the stock HL housings.

I know the Motto fogs will match my HID's the best, but just wanting to make sure I like how it looks during the day. If I don't, thats the only reason I would go with the replacement LED bulbs like those offered by VLED.

Is anyone running a replacement fog 5202 LED bulb from any company with 5500K HID headlights? If so, what Kalvin rating did you go with.

Thanks guys.

I have this setup and I think the fogs are just a touch more blue than the 5500k HID's. The fogs look a little strange from head on too, but they direct so much more light where you need it that I don't care.

^ I've got the 6500k morimoto hid and the xb led fogs in, and I think they are about dead on match in color. Don't have a pic with them both on yet but here's a installed pic.

Thanks guys, I actually like the look of the fogs much more than I thought I would, and in the pics they look pretty darn close to they 5500K HID HL's. Close enough for me anyway. I will put an order in for them today.

Here they are on my SLE. Also have the 5500k hid's from TRS.

    • Which one, the AT or AS?   Starfire is made by Cooper/Goodyear but at $85/tire I'd think I'd need to level-set my expectations that they may not even be round 😉 But you're saying they're decent?   I'm already into this thing $1506 in parts, fluids, etc. Totaled all my receipts today. $250 of that was replacing an EGR and MAP sensor that were probably fine, but I'm not going to return the parts since they've been installed. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. I use it, I keep it!   I may or may not make money if I sell the truck at this point, but, that wasn't really the point. And if I billed my time, I'd be hosed for real. My thought on the tires is I "might" put 1,000 miles on before selling it. I just don't want to put absolute junk on it, that doesn't do anyone any good. If the Solus solidly isn't junk, I'll definitely consider them.
    • I leave mine as is. I'm always a trip away from riding on unpaved roads. Dealer can clean it when they prep it after I trade it in for another new truck.
    • I have these on two vehicles and love them. Pepper is one of them 😉
    • 4WD. Far as I know it came stock with P's and not LT's. Definitely planning to put P's on it, but stock is a 109 XL load rating so I should probably stick within that guideline.   No rebates on anything I can see at the moment. Discount Tire is offering $50 off, but Pep Boys is very competitive on price, and also carries all the off-brand stuff. Les Schwab always wants an arm/leg, but they do good work.   It still has the original spare. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, thing looks like a tractor tire LOL!! How times have changed.
    • 2020 Sierra 2500 HD (base model) gas engine 4wd.    All 4 windows roll down on their own. Happens somewhat randomly after stop and engine off - when engine turned off, when walking away from vehicle before or after locks activated. Pulled the window fuse F14 Instrument Panel Fuse Block Right; the driver's side still activates from driver's side door panel; passenger and back seat windows activate from local switches on their doors but not from driver's side group of switches. Power mirrors don't activate with fuse removed either (same fuse for both circuits). Problem not solved.    How can they even activate with fuse removed but they are all still opening and can control from each door?  When they open on their own, I can shut them from the switch in each door, but they don't stay closed.    Seems to be activated somehow with key fob; something bumping the key fob in my pocket or just handling - removed key fob and took it far enough away and now the windows stay closed. Replaced key fob batty just in case, no change.    Sounds like some kind of wiring short or maybe electronics. Dealer will first replace electronic control module without checking anything else and I anticipate problem will still exist since their troubleshooting skills are limited to "do whatever the computer says".  In any case, keyfob seems to be activating the circuitry.    Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, but I can't find anything related on the site. What do yall think?   JohnRoy
