Dash Cameras

Anyone using a dash camera? If so, which one are you using? I'm looking at buying the Kdlinks X1 and was wondering what people are using.

Thanks

I wonder the same thing. I looked in to them, but none seem very discreet and they are expensive for a decent one that doesn't look like the video was shot with a potato.

Yes

There are a few topics if you use the search buttons. Plenty of example videos already posted to show the quality

Cheap insurance as I paid $75 for this one. Works great I have 2 of them

If you have an Android phone, there is an awesome and cheap app called Autoguard. I currently am making use of my old android phone and this app. Here is a video of mine that I had to submit to the police for an accident -

Hey, I recognize that location! How and where do you have the old phone mounted? I imagine it's not very discreet being a bar shaped device. Nice image quality though.

So is your phone actually being used as the dash cam or are you using the phone to control some other cam? Quality looks fantastic. If the phone is the cam, where and with what did you use to mount it? Nice job going back and standing up as a witness.

Yeah that's highway 42! Here is a picture to show where it's mounted.

Thanks, yeah I wish more people had dashcams to capture accidents to be used as evidence. Can't rely on people who will lie to avoid trouble.

It's a Samsung Galaxy s4. Since I got a free upgrade and have a different phone now, I just keep this phone in the window. I just tap one button on it to start and it records in the background so you really don't notice it. It is of course more bulky than a typical dashcam though.

I got the mount from a Spint store for $35. It is super sturdy. I had it in my car when I was rear ended and it didn't fall off. Unfortunately I forgot to start the app and didn't catch it on cam. http://imgur.com/a/mdE1y

That is a good reason to get a dedicated dashcam. It automatically starts so you never forget to turn it on.

I'm also interested in how folks wire these in? Can you pull 12V from the overhead console and drop it down to what the USB uses? Or is it just easier to go down the a-pillar?

That Bulls-I looks awesome. If it's half as good as they claim I will get it. It's tiny and 1080p.

You are right it's tough to find in stock.

I'm planning to find a tap in the overhead console to provide power to a radar detector and dashcam. I don't think there is an airbag in the A pillar but I've run into issues with those and power taps.

I mounted mine by the rear view mirror. Tucked the wire up into the headliner, pulled the side pillar trim out, and ran the power cord into the driver side fuse box. There is a grounding screw in the box, along with an accessory pin which is switched with the ignition. Very easy 20 minute job!!!!
