Hey guys, as many of you know I like to document the work I do on my truck, I like to think if I can help out a few folks then it was worth the time and effort to film and edit the video

Well my truck was due for an oil change so I decided I would make a DIY oil change video!

If you are on the fence about changing your own oil, hopefully this video will provide you with the courage to get out there and get your hands dirty!

Cheers.

I'm no pro! And don't pretend to be!

I also dropped my socket wrench into the oil pan when I was reinstalling the drain plug...said a few choice words and I decided to edit that part out. lol

Just a hint don't remove the oil fill cap until you have removed the oil plug the oil won't jump out quite as far. I also punch a hole in the bottom of the filter with a large nail helps make it a little less mess. I thought I was the only one who used choice words while under my trucks. Good Vid fondupot.

Good info. I will remember that next time. I am contemplating getting a Fumoto Valve and installing it on my next oil change. They have a bunch of different ones for our trucks. http://www.fumotousa.com/results.php?make=22&year=2014&model=17479&makeid=GMC&modelid=SIERRA+1500+5.3L+V8

The gold plug is good in theory, catch any magnetic particles in the oil, but I didn't like how much effort I needed to use to torque it down. It uses a crush washer, whereas the OEM one just has a rubber gasket. It kept dripping a little bit of oil. After I was done, I noticed a spot of oil on my garage floor and I looked at the drain plug and there was a bit of oil pooled around it. So I cranked it down a little more. Then I cleaned off the oil, and came back about 30 mins later and sure enough oil had pooled up again around the plug.

I ended up getting my torque wrench out doing about 25 ft/lbs to tighten it. Which is 7 more than the specification is for the drain plug...

That is tempting, I hate cleaning pans and this could drain right into an old oil container. You should do a video on this and review. I have somethin like that on my tractor and oil changes are cake, its plastic though so that one has more worried as far as long term reliability.

Next oil change, I'll do another video. Won't be for 6k miles or so. Lol
