Cognito Level Help

Ok, so I'm considering the cognito level kit and could really use some help.

First, what's the difference between these 2 kits? Does the "uniball" make any difference in quality?

Is the lift achieved with the adjustable bilsteins only? Is the set of UCA's included only to address the ball joint stress issue? How much lift does this kit provide?

If anyone has some experience with this kit, I would greatly appreciate some insight.

Thanks

I don't have any experience with that kit but for the price I would get coil overs from Fox.

Now there is a member on here that ha the UCAs and he loves them.

Just get Bilstien 5100's, it will be almost level and ride WAY better too. Add a 2" block in the rear if you want the rear to go up too.

For that much $$ you can get one of the cheaper 6-8" lift kits!

First this I notice is that both of the Cognito 2" leveling kits have shocks valved for the 2007-2013 1500 trucks. Im sure they will sell you the correct ones when you order.

The first kit is "Cognito Valved' Bilstein 5100 adjustable fronts and standard 5100's out back with the Congnito upper control arm.

The second kit has the same 5100's but with the Congnito Uniball upper control arms. The only reason you would want the Uniball upper ball joint is if you plan on doing more baja style/or rock crawling driving as it allows for more movement. If you are just using your truck for daily driving, construction entrances or even just back country roads the Uniball upper ball joint is not necessary.

The reason you would want the upper control arm is so you do not prematurely damage your Upper ball joint & for the potential extra travel. Many on this forum have said that with leveling your truck 2"or lower (which the Bilstein 5100 adjustable max is 1.85") it is not necessary to replace the upper control arm. They also mention that they could go bad after 50,000 miles, but thats the risk you take anytime you mod your vehicle.

If you really want the "Cognito valved" 5100's get the non uniball kit. (make sure they are valved for 2014-2015 trucks though!)

If it was me I would just get a set of the Bilstein 5100's from another source. I got mine for under $350 then just buy the Cognito boxed upper A arms separately. I can not use the Cognito upper a arms because I want to keep my stock 17" wheels and they will not fit with the Cognito upper A arms. I would have to either get after market 18" wheels with a different BS or go with a factory 18x8.5, 5.5" BS. A member Spurshot had the Cognito upper A arms and said he tried a "18x9, 5.75" backspace and the rim cleared the UCA adequately. But a 18" wheel with 5.75" backspace is about the limit of backspace for these Cognito UCAs."

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the help. I did the Fox Coilovers route on my last truck and loved them. I was just looking at different options for this new one. I do not wish to go over 2.5" of lift. I want to clear 305/55/20 KO2's. I think that going with King Coilovers and a 20x9 Fuel wheel with +20 offset will work without any rubbing. I'm not 100% sure though.

Thanks

I've got the cognito uniball levelling kit with Bilsten 5100s on my 2015 Sierra - went with the uniball as I have a plan to eventually lift and want the best flexibility with the UCAs and Cognito makes a very good product. I have had it on now for about 2,500 miles and will say that the 5100s ride better than original equipment, that's for sure. Not sure if the UCAs really make a difference but I trust that they are extremely well made and will come in handy when I lift 7-9" next year and go with different wheels/tires....Spurshot has a good writeup around his adventures with UCAs as I believe someone else mentioned....

Cognito's stuff is great. I had a bunch of their stuff on a previous vehicle. The Uniball UCA will last forever. If you got the cash, I'd say go for it.

Not really sure the difference between those kits though. Call up Cognito and ask. Visually all I can see is the bolt on style uniball joint vs the snap ring style uniball joint.
