GMC-AT Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I have a 2016 Double Cab with Bose. I was looking to installed my sub/amp I had form my 2014... but I decided against it. Kinda liking the extra space in the back seat, plus I don't want to disable the ANC that comes with the 6.2 So.. I'm thinking just to upgrade some of the factory BOSE speakers. Is it worth it? I just want a little more crisp sound... with a little more base if possible. I want to keep the factory amp..just update the speakers. Miniumal amount of tearing panels off, etc. What do you guys recommend? What type /size speakers ?
GRN69CHV Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I'll be interested in what guys say. My '15 had the standard system which has seen the addition of a pair of 8" Eathquake shallow mounts into the rear doors and recently a set of Alpine Ty-R 6x9's in the front doors. Dash speakers are stock. Amp is the Alpine 445U (45rms x 4). Ty-R 6x9's sound pretty good, to the point where you can't really tell the difference between the two (keep in mind both the 6x9's and the 8's are being ran full range off that little powerpack amp, a bigger amp would make the 8's come alive, but when I did power them up for trial during the install, there was just too much sheetmetal buzzing going on so left them on the powerpack, quite frankly, kinda thinking getting into it is a futile effort to expect to completely sound deaden an entire door assembly, there's just too many moving parts that can rattle and vibrate in there. The Ty-R's are not that far off and definitely a lot clearer and harder hitting in the mid bass (you can feel it in the chest). I'm seriously leaning to removing the 8's from the rear doors and replacing with Alpine Ty-R 6.5" components with the 6.5 mounted in the rear door and the tweeter replacing the dash speaker. If needed more bottom, then possibly add a compact powered sub.
crewl1 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 The stock Bose speakers are lower than normal impedance so if you replace with regular 4ohm speakers they will play too low. If you want to swap them out best to add an amp to power them. I'm happy with the upgrade I just did with the powered JL Audio 10. Killing the base in the doors with the bass blockers cleaned things up nicely. Sound is well balanced and the bass is powerful now. You saw my posts in the adding a sub thread. No tearing up panels required. You won't even have to open the doors up if you do all the hookup at the rear Bose amp. If I were in your shoes i'd keep the sub and amp you are selling, add the bass blockers for the doors and call it done.
