Hooked on the 6.2, but wavering a bit

Do you guys have dragstrip times to back up your 6.0's being faster?

My 2014 5.3 would walk my buddies CC Silverado SS pretty hard and beat my other buddies RCSB Max even worse.

Come on now, the SS is slower than the Max for one, and two, I don't think the 2007 and above VMax (not the older VMax 6.0 HO) came in regular cab (I can't find anything online that states that it came in regular cab. The brochures I find for 2007-2009 show it as not available).

Yeah, no max package for the RC models. Never been anything larger than the 5.3's in those. And depending on 2wd or AWD SS it shouldn't be much slower if any vs a Max. It's basically identical.. Either way it's prolly what and what with that of the new Gen V 5.3L, imo. I wouldn't bet on either in a race. I remember killing an SS though a few years ago with my 02 F150 Harley Davidson. I mean it was not even close. I even wondered if he had mashed the pedal, LOL. And mine was stock as well(albeit stock SC 345hp). That power under the curve from the SC is where its at and that's what makes a Gen V engine so great. They make so much more power thru the power band vs the gen IV.

Yeah a GMT900 Max isn't faster than a GMT800 version either. The L76 doesn't do any better than the LQ9..... in fact with the rectangular port heads it's worse honestly at anywhere below redline.

Like said above, guys don't get the power throughout the range on the Gen V.. they make awesome low and midrange power plus scream up too. It's like having your cake and eating it too!

I would like to mention when the 2500's came out(2008ish I think) with the 6spd behind the 6.0, it was night and day difference. When tuned they were a beast. I don't think the 6.0 ever saw this trans in the 1500 did it?? I remember a Vmax guy got his feelings hurt by a HD with that combo. And both were tuned. Always wished my old SS TB had the 6spd. Hated the 4spd crap!

2009 and it's a rare beast to find. That was the only year GM stuck the 6L80E( not the 6L90E like the HD's had but ratio wise its the same trans) behind the L76 and paired it with 3.73 gears. I hated those HD's lol.... had an 09 with 3.73's and yeah wound right out it moved okay but anything below about 4500 rpm it was a total dog. Cathedral port heads do so much better in a pickup truck than the rectangular ports. I wish I had the 8 speed my 15 has behind the LQ4 in my old 1500HD... would be a lot of fun.

That is a rare one! I test drove a 2009 2500hd single cab 6.0/6spd and she moved. I think it had a 3.73 gear and I was very impressed.

I had the 6.0l/6spd combo in my old 09 GMC 1500 Sierra AT and did like it, even better after I added a Diablew tune to it. I honestly don't think it would stand a chance against my current 15 Sierra with the 6.2l even with my 3.23 gears. Test driving 2 different 15s with the 6.2l and then getting into my 09 to drive home from the dealer really opened my eyes. The 6.2 is just a beast.

I don't have the 6.2, running the 5.3 here, but I can tell you, gears play a big role.

My 2011 with the 5.3 had 3:42's. Now I am running my 2015 5.3 with the max tow package which has the 3:73's in it. Combine the better gearing with the newer more powerful engine, and even this thing is a powerful beast. The 6.2 with 3:73's would be the ultimate.

My son has a 2006 cc 4x4 with the 6.0 with a tune and cold air intake. Took it to our local dragstrip and ran 14.7 @ 92 mph. There was a 2014 5.3 cc 4x4 there with a tune and he was running low 15's @ around 90 mph. He said on e-85 he could run mid 14's@ around 95 mph. My bone stock 2015 cc 4x4 has ran 13.7's 3 times hitting the speed limiter 60' from the finish line.

Gears do indeed! Yes I can attest to that combo being damn fun! lol

    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?
    • What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way to big should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crosing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
