23,000 miles and experienced two snapped spark plugs...

I have a 2014 Silverado LTZ 5.3 Crew Cab w/ roughly 23,000 miles. On a recent trip back home the check engine light was flashing and the traction control light was illuminated. I had the wife look up online; didn't say much other than a possible misfire.

 

I got it home, put it in park, it was shaking profusely. Woke up the next morning since it was almost 1AM, noticed a spark plug wire was jiggling around... looked at it and it was snapped. Took it to the Simpson Chevy nearby, they fixed it, only stating "replaced the wire". Well, my wife was driving my truck home from work and as soon as she was pulling into the drive-way, it started again. I looked the next morning and sure as hell, it was another spark plug that ended up snapping. The first time it was cylinder #3, this time it looks like it's #1.

 

I have an appointment on Monday and I'm going to tell them they need to replace all of them because obviously something is either wrong with the spark plugs or some massive amounts of shaking is occurring causing them to snap.

 

Also note, as of recent, my truck, like many others on the forum have been complaining about extremely heavy shifting from 1st to 2nd gear...

A little confused here...you say the "spark plug was snapped", but they just replaced the spark plug wire? Was the spark plug wire or plug itself snapped?

Wow! No wonder I was confused...I've heard of spark plug wires coming off, but nothing about plugs snapping.

Only seen this a couple of times. Once on a lawn mower with a bad vibration. Sound familiar ?

I have not seen a spark plug snapped in half yet, but certainly seen them with a cracked insulator, which will definitely cause a misfire after a while. The reason is most likely shoddy workmanship - use of improper tools or techniques for plug installation. When you are installing spark plugs and accidentally crack the porcelain insulator, you will hear it and know that it happened.

My truck does this. I always assumed it was the transmission. Has it been better since you had the plugs replaced?

Sorry I didn't respond to this. They replaced all the plugs and so far no issues.

 

After I had them swapped, it no longer shifts hard. I do hear a whining/low pitched whistling noise from the transmission which drives me nuts but whatever.
