Sub & Keeping space.

I know there are tons of topic about adding subs, etc. I actually still have a really nice sub/amp combo that was made for my old 2014. But for my brand new truck, I want to reclaim some space under the back seat. Don't think I want to install my old set up.

I was thinking about a small sub/amp combo.. something I can also sit things on top of it needed. Does anyone have any ideas some something compact? I know it likely won't bump like my old set up.. but I'm kinda getting over that. Want more space.

what about these?

When I bought the JLAudio self contained unit my plan was to add some tall rubber feet and flip it over so I could load stuff on top if necessary.

When I tried fitting it the underseat area was tight and adding a couple of inches to clear the grill flipped over would not be possible.

I decided to leave it face up and just load the light stuff on it if I ever need to use the whole storage area. The grill is pretty sturdy.

The bass out of this unit is perfect for me, it sounds natural and gives all my music the needed lows that the Bose system could not provide.

I do PA systems as a side job and like my systems to sound natural and rich without any exaggerated frequencies.

This is one of the reasons I took the bass out of the doors as it did not sound right to me.

This sub will not rattle the sheet metal so you can be heard down the street, but for me it is great. I think it is a matter of taste.

I installed a Jl Audio 8 in micro sub comes in a box they make one with the amp installed in the box. I installed the amp on the back fire wall behind the seat so its not in the way. The sub sits under the passenger side back seat. The little thing sounds awesome and hits as hard as a 10in. I figured if I ever needed the room I could just unplug the sub quick.

Here is a GM Accessory sub and amp, http://www.amazon.com/19303115-Kicker%C2%AE-Powered-Subwoofer-ACCESSORIES/dp/B00VNWHGBU. All plug and play. Wonder how good it is. Think this one is for a double cab. Should be a crew cab version also

I considered that one but decided to go with the more traditional box and carpet of the JL Audio unit. There are some reviews of that setup in the Add on Sub thread.

There are a few ways to get output. Surface area of the subwoofer setup: IE you could put 1 - 12" in but they are quite deep and use a lot of under seat space, same with 10" and even 8". Now if you bought say 4-6 6" subs wired in a combo of series and parallel to come out at 3-4ohm per channel, the box would be 4" deep and cover the floor area. Basically raising the underseat space by 4". The subs themselves would need less space (sealed box). Depending on the manufacturer, you may only need .25cu ft per sub. Use MDF for the box as it transmits sound very well, increase the acoustic insulation with spray foam if you like. I would likely build my sub box like this: build the top and sides to fit the floor space i needed, lay plastic on the carpet of the rear floor, take stranded fiberglass and resin and build the bottom of the box the same contour as the floor. Peel it off the floor, take it into the garage, mount it to the sides and reinforce it from the inside. Put the top on and mount the speakers. Keep in mind, sealed makes for hard hitting bass drum, tight bass. ported makes for the teenager, license plate shaking booooooooooooooom, bffft bfft booooooooooom! sound. Sealed takes more power to drive than ported but sounds way better if you like rock, jazz, country etc. Ported for rap, dub step and electronica. When i went to stereo installation school, the teacher plugged a 15" cerwin, in a 3 cube ported box, right into the wall socket. 60HZ at 1500W! the phone rang after 2 mins because the company four units down thought there was an earthquake! quite a thing to witness

you think that Kicker hideaway would fit behind the rear 60 split seat?

I don't think so. an amp maybe. This might fit in the stock sub location though but cannot guarantee it.

Oh wait you have a DC - no idea. I have a crew.
