OEM Articulating steps on 2016 Silverado LTZ

Any progress on this...?

I got a free pair of the tri-mode steps with all hardware off a '17 Chevy crew cab LTZ, I need to put them on a 2017 GMC crew cab SLE...Lucky me right? Someone mentioned to me the steps are around $1400 a piece. So they'd be nice to use.

 

 

Does every truck have the same wiring? Years ago before can-bus stuff I remember some GM cars having wiring for everything whether it had the options or not. I remember adding cd changers and other accessories.

 

If it can not be done without BCM work, when I installed an original set of amp steps 5-6 years ago the install did not include plugging into the OBD port. They actually tied in to the door open sensor wires.

 

Depending on the complexity of the steps, I would guess they could be configured with hot, ground, and some relays...? I haven't looked at any pinouts or schematics yet though...Any thoughts?

Anyone have experience with the Bestop wireless steps? I like the idea of wireless, but if I recall, their original wired steps weren't getting great reviews.

I would stay away from Bestop. They get terrible reviews. Also even though they are wireless you need to mount the sensors to the door jambs (looks ugly) and you will probably need to change the batteries on a regular basis.

You can't get these to work without having a dealership reflash the BCM. The trucks with these steps come from the factory programmed to operate them. You can try to get a dealership to flash the BCM but most won't do it since they need to enter a VIN into the Tech2 programmer.

Reviving an old thread.  I ended up picking up a pair of these Articulating Running Boards.  I did some temp wiring and was able to get them to move with the door opening/closing.  Was also able to get the rear board kick switch to make them move somewhat backward.  It was temp wired up as I was awaiting arrival of the correct connectors/terminals.  Now that I have the terminals, I'm pretty excited that I am fairly confident I can get these to work!

Had a local member over today for Illuminated Door Handle Install. I would have worked on this today otherwise.

Should have some time to work on this tomorrow. I already have the wiring in place that goes forward to the X50A Fuse Block.

This is the wiring I drew up for it. Just 3 wires that go forward (+ 1 Chassis Ground). The remaining wires are wires that goes between the module and the boards. The module sits within a few inches of the driver side board connector.

Here you go.  IT CAN BE DONE!  No BCM Programming required.  All Plug and Play.  Just fill in the missing circuits.

I was able to get these installed on a 2015 Sierra Crew Cab. Unfortunately the wiring is different as these were not an option for 14-15. I don’t have the wiring required for (GM LAN and running board disable ) ran from the running board module. I previously had the amp research boards but didn’t love the look of them over these. I was able to tap the motor wires on the boards to make them open and close similar to the amp boards would. As of now they open and close fully extended to the bed, I am going to modify the rubber bump stops on the boards  so I can get the them to stop at cab length. Personally I don’t care if the rear extend mode works or not right now. I figured I would wire these so they are usable on a 14-15 and then if I decide to buy a 16+ I will be able to use the method above.

If i remember correctly they took around 2-3 hours to install,  I had purchased the kit that included the OBD Plug and Play. The most time consuming part was running the wiring how I wanted

I am lucky enough to get my hands on a set for $300. But now this wiring install. Does anyone have advise.
