2016 HD Denali Diesel Bumper / Grill Question

Just took delivery of a 2016 HD Denali Diesel and have a few questions. New to the HD world so please excuse my ignorance.

 

I notice a big gap between the grill and the front bumper is this for air flow are add on's?

 

I also notice below the grill there is an opening that exposes a filter. Is this area for air flow as well? Almost looks like a cover/slotted grate is missing.

 

Any feedback / info would be great.

You should look at getting the Putco grille cover to protect the tranny cooler from rocks. I bought one after the first big dent I got in mine. Looks good too.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of putting a set of lights in the opening. But do not want to restrict the air flow.

You will see zero difference in temps with a light bar, several have installed them with zero issues.

 

 

The first thing I do when I get a new truck home is install heavy thick gauge screen in front of the coolers, keeps the coolers bug/rock chip free and looks nice.

Until I get the add-ons I will be doing to the grill, having to remove the grill, I got a metal 6 inch rain gutter shield and placed it in the hole, allowing the plastic and the bumper to 'wedge' it in position.

I got that grill guard but in black. Matches the plastic on either side.
