Cooper ATP Review 275/65/18

Been needing new tires for a couple of month as we are deep into winter here in the midwest. Original equipment on this truck were Bridgestone Dueler a/t's and i was always pretty happy with them. I looked at and researched tires for weeks before deciding on BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains. I wanted white letters out and a decent looking AT tire that would handle the snow and mud but also tow my tool trailer well. They were a little of a let down from the start. .i think my worn out Duelers performed better on all fronts then the BFG's. I put about 30,000 on them and they had plenty of tread left but were the worst tires on snow i have ever had. After a long 15 mph slow motion slide down a residential area road i convinced myself new skins were nesesary. More reading and several visits to tire shops i decided on Goodyear Duratracs in 275/65/18 standard load. The only drawback was they were not offered with white letters ( its a white truck and i think they look good on 18" and smaller wheels..absolutely hate blackwalls unless its a 20" wheel.)

I wanted to go to a even larger tire but didn't want to sacrifice off the line acceleration so i figured one size up would be OK. Driving away from Discount tire with the Duratracs i could feel the tires were heavier but they felt good around town and handled the curves well and the ride was firm yet acceptable. Then i get on the expressway and they start to feel a little squirmy. Steering input seemed to be ignored by the tires at first as they seemed to want to wander around the lane ..totally ignoring where i wanted them to go..then suddenly they would accept some steering input and a quick lane change would happen leaving me to almost over correct and the truck would wiggle around a second or two before settling down. After driving all weekend on them i called Discount and said i wasn't happy with the tires, they suggested rotating them but i didn't think that would help. Went in the next morning and swapped for Cooper APT's in the same size. They gave me back the difference of $225 which i was happy about. ..it wasn't their fault i chose the Duratracs.

The coopers have been on a week or so now and i couldn't be happier with them. Went through over 24" of snow with no problems, they dont wander at higher speeds and they're quiet. They dont look quite as aggressive on the truck. .hands down the Duratracs look better but i would much rather enjoy driving my truck lol. The Coopers feel lighter too and i can't feel any difference in acceleration over the stock size BFG's i had on before. I really like the power of the 6.2 and don't want any unnessesary parasitic loss. Long story short i would recommend the ATP's so far. Not sure about tire wear but they sure handle nice! !

Awesome! Thank you for the review! I have the ko2 and I notice the difference with the weight I love the tires and they're great in snow but I have a itch to sell them for a lighter tire so I've been searching for reviews on here ive done a ton on here before but I like the update you gave!
