Tuxedo lo pro QT my second one and I would highly recommend

I use lo pro qts as well. They do leak some at tailgate in high pressure car washes, but not rain or snow.

 

Have never heard of anyone cutting open toneaus to look for things to steal, but if I was storing expensive tools back there I'd still do something different.

 

I like the roll up for convenience, and for my needs the added cost of the others is not justified. Just need to keep rain and snow off my cargo.

I think I've narrowed it down to two options.

 

a) A retractable that I can depend on to be used daily and not bind up or stick after a years use.

 

b) A flip up that can be opened at front or back and low profile.

 

The dust and water I think I can reduce with a good bed seal kit.

 

Any thoughts?

 

I have the advantage hardhat tri-fold - it may actually be the same manufacturer that produces the GM tri-fold to be honest, but can be bought cheaper. Locks down in place w/ plastic clamps that can't be accessed without the tailgate open, its pretty much waterproof, and the plastic panels/AL frame can support probably 30-60 lbs of gear right in the middle without damaging anything as long as its even distributed.

 

I would check it out....rarely do I find a situation where I need the complete open top of the bed, & when I do unhinging & removing the cover is easy as heck. No separate inside rails, no water leakage issues, no delaminating of the vinyl/rubber flaps & seals etc. (research the BAK flip type covers before buying)

 

You wanna spend some $$$ I guess an alternative would be the Roll-X type or retractable locking type.

 

I don't think you will get true security & weathertightness you're looking for unless its a cover that sits on the bed rails not inside.

Yes, Advantage makes the GM tri-fold covers...I just got one through Autoaccessoriesgarage, a couple weeks ago, and its much nicer cover than the Extang I had on my '15...

My Son-In-Law just ordered one yesterday for their truck...they bought a Tonnopro, and the rear frame rail was bent down, so when latched, you couldn't close the tailgate...Tonnopro sent another and it was worse...so he's sending both back and getting the Advantage...on sale this weekend for $350.99

You guys/gals don't worry about water freezing in those drain lines? Especially this time of year, when sun is warm but air is cold. Even more so when we get a snow storm!

My brother is still driving my old 94' with a roll n lock cover. (23 years)! Never had a problem with the lines freezing, and it's been through lots of snow storms in the U.P. of Michigan snowmobiling.

My new one I expect the same results.

No problems this year, but I only had 1 trip North, and it was a mild year back home, so time will tell.
