I went extang, excellent warranty and read nothing but good things about their warranty handling years on down the road (lifetime). DIdn't need a hard cover and didn't want to give an invitation to someone to damage the truck trying to get into something tough when I put nothing but junk or kids sports stuff back there. Also didn't want to loose bed space since it's a short bed, and wanted a flat low profile surface no lines, and nothing that could collect dirt and dust in slats or cracks or be tough to clean.

Which Extang did you get? I plan on the Extang Trifecta Signature canvas.....

I got the revolution, the canvas ones look real good too I almost went trifecta signature too, just the revolution sits a bit more flush and rolls up

so it fit my criteria.

The trifecta will be a bit more water proof than the revolution design I think, it's not rainy season here yet but from car washing I haven't noticed anything notable. Trifecta will be easier to open, the revolution doesn't have velcro so it's pretty simple, there are some bars every foot or so, when you latch it pulls them under some angled things on the rail sides which secure them. Opening and closing is quick but sometimes I need to wiggle to get the bars from under the angled latches.

After dealing with a Leer 700 hard fiberglass for 10 years on my last rig - I want something that can be 100% removed easily - and I have seen the Trifecta canvas in action.

I never removed the hard cover because of the weight and struggle. Instead it was always a struggle hauling a couch, yard brush/branches, washer/dryer, U name it - a queen box spring would not fit because of the cover.

it takes about 2 inches of bed space I'd estimate that's about how much the cab rail hangs over. I haven't removed after install but should be easy, there's a thumb screw knob you unscrew on the left, slide the small safety latch out of the way that knob secures, then a lever on the right should release it from the rail.

It does have a seal system, on the rail there's some that slide in it looks like and sewn into the cover, small rubber strips but not like a foam seal it sits on, the strips sort of fit around the edge of the rail pretty tight and fitted. Googling since I don't have a pic handy you can see it in this picture I found

Those look like the weak point in terms of wear, and the cover ones are sewn in so you can't just change those on the cover, have to replace the canvas. I'm assuming those will last at least 5 years or more, so if you gotta have a warranty claim I bet those will be it.

No Velcro is a plus - Velcro is a non-starter for me.

I prob won't even have mine on unless going camping, or roadtrip or some other reason to cover the bed.

Just traded in my '15 Siena Denali on Wednesday for a new '17 Denali. Had the Pace Edwards SwitchBlade on it the past 2 years and switched it over yesterday so I can lock my tools up for now. I liked it for the first year or so but then not so much. Looking to purchase a new one so I'm looking around here to see what everyone else is using/recommending.

Pro's from PE SwitchBlade:

- Low Profile

- No visibility issues when open

- Definitely secure when closed and tailgate locked

Con's:

- After a year or so of opening and closing daily, operation was very rough (didn't roll up well and would bind up)

- Not 100% Water Tight (Bed Rug would get damp @ Tailgate corners after weekly car wash)

- Amount of Dust that got in was ridiculous

- Bed Rails scratched very easily (large paint chips came off and aluminum exposed)

Looking to keep these Pro's and drop the Con's obviously.

Was looking at the Retrax covers. Friend of mine has the Retrax PowerTrax and he loves it.

Any thoughts? I love the bed seal kit one of you guys mentioned. Think I'm definitely gonna go with that too. Should help keep out the dust.

Look at US truck covers also, similar to retrax and roll n lock ( I had this one before) but I like the coating better, and with the US truck covers you can do the tailgate without unlatching the cover of you want to just grab something quick out of the back end. I believe the retrax has plastic gears/ that it rolls on inside the container housing. It looked like the one I bought looked heavy-duty made in comparison.

My brother has had his on his 2014 with no problems and I put one on my 17 also, so far I like it, other than the dust and pressure washed in the tailgate corners, I think a bed seal would fix this problem perfectly! Any info on a bed seal?

Also my youngest brother bought my old 1994 Chevy with the original roll n lock and it still works perfectly, the only reason I tried this me brand is so I don't have to unlock the cover if I don't want to. I bought this roll n lock vs the pace Edwards brand back then because pace looked cheaper built back then too. Sometimes quality cost more.....

Why does everyone buy these insanely expensive covers and then think "a little" water is okay?? I paid a whopping $200 for a brand new soft cover with a 10 year warranty. It does leak on one corner of the tailgate, maybe an ounce of water...only after the automatic carwash (yeah I know, bad dor the paint). Dry as a bone after rain. I'd be pissed if I spent $800 on a cover that leaks a drop.

Mine leaks at the tailgate sides only..... No cover will fix that on mine, you can shine a flashlight through it and see into the bed.... I'm thinking only some sort of bed seal will fix that?

$200 and works well. 10 year warranty. Adjustable.

Edit: I mean, I understand that you get what you pay for, but after shopping for a soft cover, they all look the same. I'd be willing to be most are made at the same factory, just different brand names are applied before shipping.

I don't think it's ok that water gets in. Which is why I'm unhappy with it and looking for something new. And it's not even much either. Like I said, the bed rug gets damp at the tailgate corners. I'm not taking about everything being soaked.

I can't do a soft cover. I'm a general contractor and pretty much every day I have about $40k worth of gps/survey equipment and tools with me. Security is a must and soft covers are just an absolute not for me. I just spent $65k on a new truck and I carry expensive tools and equipment. If "sometimes quality costs more" (which I agree with most of the time), then I don't see a reason to save a few bucks to go with something that isn't best for me. Just trying to find the best solution for MY needs.

Basically my opinion is that with a soft side cover a lazy thief will still steal my tools and stuff out of the back end ( like leaving your truck unlocked) vs a hard sided cover they would have to work harder to get the stuff ( like having your truck locked)

A good thief will still get what he wants, but a lazy one moves on.....

Other than that both covers do the job of protecting things to keep dry and out of sight.

Before we moved our neighbors cars that were unlocked would be missing stuff on a regular basis, the locked ones were left alone, basically kids would be my guess.....

No I get the hard cover and tools thing. It's all the guys spending a lot of money on the soft ones that blows my mind. And since the tailgate locks, someone would have to take a knife to the cover. Easily done, but obvious what they are doing while doing that. In all the years I've owned a truck with a soft cover, friends and family, none have ever had that happen. Not to say it doesn't. Just not like it's a 50/50 chance. Unless someone knows you have expensive items back there, why risk getting caught for a few empty beer cans?? Thieves aren't all that dumb.
