I've read lots of threads about covers and looked at a lot of pics but I haven't seen anyone address this area with covers. Which ones are the lowest profile? I don't like the look of covers, especially the ones that stick way up above the side of the bed. I want something as low profile as possible. The best one I've come across so far is from BAK that has aluminum panels that fold back (3 or 4 sections I think). Is there another low profile option?

 

I also want something that is relatively water tight as well.

I had a BAK FLIP... It leaked pretty bad...

I have an Extang Revolution on mine and couldn't be happier. I Wanted a hard fold but full bed access or loss of visibility is an issue and for the prices couldn't justify it as I need full bed access rather often and don't want to remove and remount the thing all the time.

 

No leaks and automatic tensioner keep it flap free unless I driving through a nasty wind storm and even then it's minimal.

I have the undercover flex. I wanted one that was low profile but also that could fold up easily or be easily removed to put the 4wheeler in back the truck. I am extremely happy with this cover and I will never own a truck without it.

I've been trying to decide what cover to buy and just can't make up my mind. I've heard good and bad things about all of them. I don't want a solid one because I need the versatility of using the bed and don't want tell hassle of taking the whole thing off. I think a hard fold would be best from a security perspective and have really been leaning toward the flex. How does it do in hard rains? Any water in the bed?

I had to drill a hole on each side of the bed for the two drain lines. the seal seems to be pretty tight as I do not get any water in the bed. As far as taking the cover off goes, keep this in mind. The undercover folds up three times and then there are two little dials that unscrew and then the cover pops off from the railing. It is very easy to do for one person and takes approximately 2 minutes. I think what gets most people is they think that they would have to remove a 6 ft bed cover all in one piece and that its too much of a hassle to do. This cover also has the ability to strap the cover after folding it up twice or the poles that hold the cover up without it leaning against the cab and rubbing on the paint.

Those are some of the points I really like about it. I don't have an issue removing something like this, it's more of the big solid ones that I don't want to have to go through the trouble of taking off. Most of the time I think just having it 2/3 open would be enough and I like how it includes built in straps rather than just D-rings.

I have the Undercover Flex with the did NOT have to drill holes for the drain lines.

 

The hole at the front left corner of the bed was plant big for one of the drain holes.

 

On the right side, I drilled a hole in one of the Gear On tie down plastic covers, and ran the hose through there usin a 3/8" 90 degree irrigation hose elbow.

 

I wasn't a fan off drilling extra holes into the truck.

I don't want to drill holes either. I'm going to be installing a bed rug when it warms up and I'm not quite sure what to do here. I don't really want to have any holes in that except for the tie downs. I'm actually thinking of doing some kind of catch system that I just dump after it rains. Open to other ideas though.

Some folks use an elbow off the drain and then are able to direct the hose where they want vs straight down.

With a couple of elbows you may be able to get the hose over to the side so it comes down behind the bed rug and into an uncovered tie down hole?

Trip to the hardware store is something I would try.

Personally I selected a rail- less folding cover so as not to have to deal with rails and drains, but it is not low profile:

I've looked at the solid fold as well. I prefer the lower profile but haven't taken it out of the running. How much water have you seen get into the bed, if any?

The only water that comes in is a little bit at the tailgate sides which I did not seal, and front of bed where the plastic bed caps are higher than the Linex on the front edge so there are little triangles open where the rubber seal transitions from the edges to the front.

 

We don't get a lot of rain here so I haven't concerned myself with trying to make it completely water tight yet.

 

I'm about to add a BedRug mat so if I find it retains moisture I will add foam tape to the front bed edge and get a tailgate seal kit.

The tailgate seal should definitely help that. I thought I had read somewhere about a weatherstripping kit that compensated for the height difference between the front of the bed and the side rails too.

 

I'm in NC so the rain amounts vary quite a bit. I'm not going to be hauling stuff that I'm that concerned about too much, but knowing my luck the few times I do it will monsoon.
