How-To: Install GMT800 Footwell Lighting.

This is my how to write up on installing foot well lighting in 99-07 Classic GMT800 pickups. Now I believe GM stopped putting in these lights after the 2002 model year, but most trucks still have one or both brackets under the dash for the lights. More than likely you will have the passenger side bracket, but not the drivers side one. For the drivers side mount in my truck i pulled one out of a 99 Silverado and modified it to fit in my truck.

Here is the list of supplies I used:

Electrical Tape
Quick Connects
Heat Shrink Connectors
194 Bulb Sockets
194 LED Bulbs
16 Gauge Wire
Zip Ties

Here is the mount I took from the 99 Silverado:

Then I cut off only what i needed to bolt into my truck to be able to mount the 194 plug:

Here is the mount for the passenger side, this bracket is the one that is still found in a lot of 03+ trucks even though there is no foot well lighting:

So I started by grounding the plug on the passenger side to part of the dash frame behind the glove box, and wiring up the power wire using 16 gauge wire and a heat shrink connector. After that I ran the power wire over to the drivers side.

Then I installed the modified bracket that I pulled out of the 99 Silverado. I ground the plug on the drivers side to one of the bolts for the bracket. Now if you don't have a bracket available you could always fabricate your own or find another way to mount the 194 bulb socket. I did mine this way because I had easy access to a bracket.

Now, find the black box under the drivers side dash, and take the cover off. It looks like this:

Now inside this box you're going to want to find the gray wire with the black stripe. This is what you're going to need to tap into for your power. There are two of these wires, and you'll find them in the orange/brown connector. It doesn't matter which one of the two you tap into. I decided to use both of the wires. One for the drivers side bulb and the other for the passenger side bulb. I used quick connects to wire up the power wires.

After this you should have working lights.

These lights will come on and go off with the rest of the interior lights in the truck.
