Bed lighting???

Recommended Posts

So I'm just now getting around to this. But I bought my truck right before new year. I stuffed a box under the back seat and forgot about it. I opened it a couple days ago, and inside is a bed lighting kit, with only 2 lights, not 4. Why would the dealer provide half of the kit needed? Any ideas.

The kit only includes 2 lights. Those that have 4 are modifying a second kit and splicing into the first kit.

Since you haven't installed it yet, would you mind looking to see if there is a part number on the light itself? or just take a picture of the sticker on the light and post it here?

What did the kit cost you? I might look into splicing in another set of lights. The current lights aren't bad but you can never have to much lighting!

If that package came with your truck and was factory optioned, it should have been installed at pdi. You should ask your selling dealership to install that for you... They got paid to do it... But again, only if it was factory equipped as such.

What model year is your truck?

Yeah I'll look into the part number on the lights themselves when I get home.

Were you able to find the individual part numbers for the harness and lights?

Well I ordered a 2nd set about 2 weeks ago. My truck was delivered yesterday. (The dealer I bought from is 268 miles away from me, (I know a guy there, bought our last 4 new vehicles from there))

So they went to install them today and realized I had a set installed when the truck was built.

They said that the service dept couldn't install it. (So Lame) So I called the place who it doing my Fold-A-Cover, AMPs, and Redline. I asked they said, sure, bring it over with the truck and we can make it work.

I assume that is just a matter of tapping into the other lights wire. But the dealer didn't want to touch it. They are "by the book" so I was told. So my accessory $$ won't be buying their book. ;)

Note....different kits for 14-15 and the 16 (23295943 for 16 only) and the 16 sells for more. Likely has something to do with the change in the rear electrical connectors from a block of connectors to individual connectors or a change in length to accommodate the different location of the connectors. You do not have to lower the spare on the 16 like in the GM directions for the 14-15 to get access to the "blank" electrical connector and it is not really blank because there is another inline connector with a 90 degree takeoff plugged in to the formerly blank connection behind the blank plug (could now be used for the camera and/or rear sensor feed).

Easy to connect a second set by splicing into the two wire feed, but it is not really necessary if you also have a center mounted cargo light in the CMHSL assembly which is sufficient to light the front of the bed. Mine produces more than enough light even with the sports bar blocking the CMHSL assembly.....not so with the brake light which is completely blocked and requires wiring of its own internal CMHSL replacement.

Those wiring the 2nd pair of lights generally have a bed cover of some type. Very deep and dark in there with a cover and only one pair of lights.
