Is it just me or??

So I have had my 2015 Sierra for 6 months now and love it. I have had 0 issues with it. I had a 2006 Silverado and it just seemed to me it was built a lot more beefy then my new truck. Is it just me or do any of you think this also with the mid 2000 trucks?

I had an 04 that I really liked, but I don't think it had the capabilities of this truck.

And it's mileage wasn't this good.

Seems like the metal is slightly thicker on my 01 vs the 15. The 15 sits higher off the ground and is a lot taller when reaching into the bed. The frame/ride seems to be stiffer on the 15. I still baby the new truck where I whip and gag on the old one. I will say that if the 15 holds up half as good as the 01 has, I will be happy.

I agree,I had my 06 for 9 years. Seem I try and compare them a lot. I also hope this truck holds up half as good.

my friend still has my 04 denali that I can ride/drive in and my 15 denali def is beefer. I know it destorys it towing and with being comfortable.

I had an 02 SD and 04 one is 200k and the other is 300k both running strong. My 15 has 12k miles so I have no idea how it will be at 200k

20mpg vs 11-12 is great. I would also love a 15 denali with quadrasteer

Coming from an '03 F150 with the 4.6 to the '14 Silverado 5.3, I know in terms of power and capability, I've made a huge jump forward. I do feel like I had much more feedback from the old Ford though; something I attribute to the electric power steering. Part of driving the old underpowered Ford I do miss. Definitely happy with the new truck though.

I came from a 2002 ext cab Z71 to a 2014 dbl cab Z71 and I do feel like my 2002 was a much more "beefy" truck as far as sheet metal and off road capabilities (much better approach angle in the front). I know Gm did this for mpg's but I just think it is strange that the cab of my 2014 sits a couple of inches higher off the ground than my 2002 did but has a much worse approach angle. As far as the engine goes the 2014+ 5.3 has the old ones beat by a mile but only time will tell how sturdy they will be. I feel like the 4 speed trans in the older truck shifted much better than the current 6 speeds (have not drove an 8 speed yet).

I agree with you. The older model seems to be more powerful than the newer model.

Powerful in what way? I cam from an 03 Silverado and my 2015 has WAYY more power than my old one. It's really not even close

There are a lot of differences between my 2001, 2011 and my 2014 Silverado. 2011 and 2014 have the 5.3L, (2001 had the 4.8L V8) but as we all know, the '14 is DI which is rated at more HP and Torque. I hated the AFM on the 2011 and the transmission shifting - there was no Passive Exhaust Valve (aka "flapper") or resonator on the '11. To make it run better, I installed a full Banks Powerpack system: shorty headers, CAI, Monster Exhaust and tune with AFM turned off. Ran great after that.

Then I drove the 2014...aside from being better appointed (LTX vs LT) it handled and rode much smoother and quieter. I think the AFM transitions were handled much better on the '14. But I can't leave well enough alone. Updated with the GM Borla and AFM turned off. Seems to shift better and is more responsive overall now. I have 5 months left on the bumper-bumper warranty...trying to decide which tune is in my near future...Diablew or BBP...

2001 Single Cab was much beefier, yes, but also was not as advanced. Put headers, CAI, exhaust and tune on this one too so that we could get the most out of the small V8. It was quite peppy for a little truck - it was smaller overall including the height compared to the '11 and '14.

All in all, the '14 is much better and comfortable in my opinion...yes, time will tell...

I had a 2001 Silverado Ext Cab previously. I think my 2015 is ALOT more solid. The sheetmetal may not be as thick, but because of a dedicated "B" pillar, it feels much more solid.

Power is much better, and the 6-speed seems great. I came from a 4L60, so it took getting used because of the more frequent shifts. Curious what the 8-speed would be like, but I am pretty happy with the 6-speed.

Edit: I should add, my father-in-law has a 2008. Very nice, but a rattle-trap compared to mine.

I love my 15 but I think my 13 felt more solid to be honest. My wife and I both think the brakes were better when towing my boat and the suspension felt stiffer. Love the look and extras of the 15 though.

Funny thing is the 13 felt like it had better brakes and it had drums in the rear.

Drum brakes are not a bad thing IMO. I had the early 800 series that had disc brakes in the rear and I was having to change them out every 20k miles but strangely only had to change the fronts once and that was at 110k miles. What I heard was that GM did a bad job in how they had the rear disc set up in that road debris would get caught up between the pad and disc and accelerate wear. Don't know if this is true or not but I got pretty efficient at changing out the pads on that truck. The brakes also sucked really bad on my 2002.
