Unique exhaust question

Hello all,

So I'm at the gas station and a decked out Z06 drives in with an INSANE boat sounding exhaust. I start talking to him and be told me that its a bi modal exhaust system and that he can turn the sound down if he wants to with a flip of a switch. He explained how it all works and its pretty much exactly what I want. I want my truck to be aggressive when I want it to be, but I don't want to hear it very much while I'm driving or hear any drone. Do they make something like that for our trucks? Im almost thinking that if they don't, that i could maybe get an aggressive muffler, branch off a pipe before the resonator and put a valve in there attached to a servo which runs to a switch in my truck. Flip the switch and the valve with turn bypassing the resonator and giving the full exhaust sound. What do you all think? I could even attach it before my muffle instead that way it would just be the straight cat sound?

Ok update. I found this and it's what I was talking about ( should have googled more) http://www.siliconeintakes.com/dsm-intercooler-piping/3.0%22-electric-exhaust-cutout-_-bypass-valve-p-9577.html

Anyone done this? The 5.3L has a 2.75in pipe but these only come in 2.5 and 3" which should I go with?

If you install it after your cats the sound will still be a bit muffled. I also recommend you buy a better brand. Cheaper brands work for a while but with the heat under the truck the motors burn out and will get stuck. The issue with that is if they burn out in the open or half open position, your screwed until a new one arrives. The brand you posted also looks like a major pain to replace.

Ive had these on my LS1 mustang for 4 years with no issues. Plus they come with a more professional open/close switch not some nasty toggle switch lol. The DMH brand also allows for a bolt on turndown to be added. That probably isnt a big deal on our trucks but on my car adding one helps direct the heat and fumes down and away from the car.

The corvette and new camaro do have factory bi mode exhaust available. There is nothing along those lines for our trucks, work very differently.

However, as you have discovered, exhaust cutouts have been around forever. You can have a manual one with a plate or electronic. Usually left open on the end of headers or something for track use. Usually sounds like a dump truck though.

I dont think after stock cats your going to see much difference, still going to be somewhat quiet. Id just look for a muffler you like.

Cutout between the cats and muffler will still be pretty aggressive. If you want to see how aggressive just pop the cat back off and start er up

Also, if you cut out before the cats you will get DTC's setting
