Range AFM Disabler Warranty Safe in 2016?

So I have a new 2016 Silverado with the factory warranty intact of course (and I paid almost 2K for a non-limited warranty and extended to 72K miles) and I Do Not want to jeopardize my factory warranty by using a tuner etc.

BUT I have used the Range Disabler on my old 2011 Sierra for years with zero issues.

I have sent in my Range device for the most recent 7.7R software update made for 16' vehicles and it's on it's way back to me as we speak.

But I am curious in everything you guys have seen and know about the Range Disabler Device if it is in fact warranty safe? No traces left behind is diagnostics are ran at dealership during a service visit, on if On-Star is able to detect this type of thing during their once a month diagnostic test during my 6 month free trial? (I will not be paying after the 6 months).

Just wanting to get more of an "Okay" from you guys who knows best that I am safe using this device to disable the V4 mode using this Range device on my 2016 Silverado with a factory warranty???

Thanks so much for your feedback. :)

How well do yo know your dealer? You are disabling the software's functions. If they scan, they will know. Don't count on the power train warranty holding up but the rest should be fine.

2k for an extended warranty to 72k miles? I almost fell out of my chair.

You are incorrect on this, the Range device does not change any of the calibration data in the ECM/TCM at all. So the dealer and GM will never know it was plugged into the OBDII port at all, the Range device is no different that any other Bluetooth OBDII reader or those ones that Progressive insurance offers to log your driving habits.

The Range device and any of the other ones I mentioned can cause issues with the CANBUS data system that the modules use to communicate, that is the only thing that has been noticed.

Seems most say there is no issue at all running a Range during warranty ... But some say different.

And I guess OnStar can't tell what you have plugged in to the port other then you do have something plugged in. But my Powersteps are plugged in so they wouldn't know the difference really I dunno.

Just trying to make sure I'm 100% safe to use it ... Paid way to much for a warranty to ruin it over something as small as this

Old Cowpie, over on the 2500 section might know the answer. I think he put the Range on his new '13 right away.

I have used the range on my 2011 for years so I know I don't want the V4 mode and especially since I have a flowmaster and it sounds horrible in V4 mode.

So I know for a fact I wanna run it but I just want to get some knowledgeable feedback that it's safe to do so.

Seems like it's okay so I think I'll plug it in once I get it back tomorrow

had lots of codes using the range (junk) just manually shift to 5 and you have the same thing and no helicopter sound

why don't you ask your service advisor or people you got the extended warranty from? Or you can trust some guys on the internet you don't even know. Yes it will work no problem =)

Before I bought an intake for my CTS V I asked and they said it wouldn't void any warranties.

One drawback to running in M5 (I do it a lot) is you lose the grade braking. If you live in a hilly area, that might be a problem.

the Range module threw codes on my truck too and that was after I sent it back to them after the latest software update. I've since been using the Hypertech tuner, you can turn off the AFM v4 mode and you don't have to load any other tunes if you don't want to. Been working great so far. I have another Hypertech tuner for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested.

Also when I did have the codes (Service Stabilitrak and Service Brake Assist) with the Range device, I got my monthly OnStar email report and it did mention the codes and also said something like "check for aftermarket device plugged into the OBD port" or something like that.

Since the Range device is on the market for quite a while I wouldn't be too sure that GM hasn't found a way to tell, if something was plugged into the OBDII port.

Well CRAP .... you guys are making me think twice about plugging this thing in! :(

I will not in any way use a tuner like some have suggested ... if this device may be able to be seen somehow then a tune will No Doubt be seen (and I know you can revert to factory but those leave lots of trails I have been told).

Seems some have had issues with codes running this lately.

I have a 75K full 100% factory warranty .... paid extra for no limitations on my 3 year 36 month and added the extended full coverage up to 75K for just under $2K more .... Sooo, with that kind of money been spent on a warranty I do not want to screw it over by using something like this.

I know damn well my service dept. guy will say "No you can't use that it will void your warranty" .... So I have been trying to get more from others here who have used it.

I used it on my 2011 Sierra for 3 years straight without a single issue, no code, no nothing with an extended warranty. Not sure what may have changed since then.

I read above that some guy had OnStar tell her had something plugged in he shouldn't have ... that's my worry ... that could cause problems I think.

Well crap ... my Range device is due back in the mail to me today and I'm not sure I want to plug this thing in now. Hmmmmm
