HID install for 2014-2015 trucks Onstar issue

Recommended Posts

I just installed some Morimoto HID lights in my 2015 Sierra. They work great and I love them. No engine light or anything like that in the cab

Today I got my onstar diagnostics report and it calls that my lights have errors

Anyone else have this problem?

Nope. Installed HID's on the 18th and I got my report on the 21st. No issues.

You must be getting alerts from the truck when you start it.

Your HID kit should have been a can-bus style or had error eliminator.

I get the same messages since I installed the HIDs. I think you need load resistors on the original headlight wires.

The passenger side wire is driving the HID relay with a capacitor and the drivers side wire is not connected after the HID install.

I've been ignoring the warnings for now. The dealer checks for codes as soon as you take the truck in for service. They hooked up a wireless OBDII reader when I dropped off the truck for inspection but said nothing about a headlight warning. I think it causes an Onstar diagnostic message but doesn't cause a DIC warning on the dash.

I have the same thing on my Onstar notification and I have LMZ Vleds installed on my truck. 2015 GMC Sierra SLT AT CC.

I have the same message and don't worry about it. I have 55 watt HID with a harness only. Since I don't get a message that my light is out I don't worry about my On Star message.

Thanks, I did install that between passenger side and light and harness.

Weird it is giving you problems. I just got my latest report from OnStar and I am all green across the board (except for the two recalls I need to have fixed).

This isnt just an HID issue. I got a set of OPT7 LEDs in and I just received this same email last month and this month. No errors on the dash though, only in this email.

The lights do not flicker or anything. Im due for an oil change so ill see if they say anything but I doubt it.

Im thinking on-star is just recognizing they are not running through wires as stock lights would .. idk but i dont think its an issue unless your lights are flickering or getting dash errors.
