Safety Recall - Lease Transfer

Recommended Posts

I've been attempting to transfer the lease on my 2015 GMC Sierra since the end of February... Ally Bank has given me excuse after excuse. They say they receive the applicants paperwork, then they've "lost it" and all of a sudden find it again.... I've had so many people apply.

After months of complaints and threatening to take legal action, they finally approved one of the applicants. Now, they're telling me that there is a safety recall on my vehicle and they can't transfer it because of this.

The problem is, there is no remedy to the recall.

I can understand if I was negligent on getting the recall fixed, but GM hasn't even released a solution for the recall (Recall # N150822). Why am I being held accountable for a vehicle that has a safety recall?

Ally Bank told me they can't knowingly transfer the lease of a vehicle that has a safety recall. BUT, if there is no solution, why is it okay for me to have a vehicle with a safety issue then?

I will soon be contacting my lawyers unless GM or ALLY buys this vehicle back from me. This is appalling and GM should be ashamed to have used this bank who has been arguing with me, giving me excuse after excuse since February.

There is a remedy to the recall:

Repair Description:

For used and customer vehicles, dealers will enlarge the side shield opening, install a pusher bracket on the tensioner, and if necessary, replace the tensioner assembly free of charge. For unsold new vehicles, dealers will replace the retractor assembly.

I read that too, but when I called the dealer when it first came up they apparently go by what the very bottom of the recall says. IT also said the fix when I called. It still says "Recall Status: INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE". I literally just checked it. The woman at the dealership said to keep a check on it and call back when it changes. So even though it says how to fix it on both unbought and bought trucks, I guess GM hasn't finalized it or said it's ok to do the fixes yet.

My truck was not on that recall list, so I don't have first hand knowledge of this snafu. Leave it to GM to issue a recall, list the repair procedure, then state that a remedy is not available. Sorry OP, thought my post would help you.

Allot of dealers still do not have the information on how to carry out this recall. My dealer is still waiting so I wan not able to get it done when i had it in for some more radio issues.

Just FYI there is two more new updates for the 2014 radios Dealing with backup camera issues and Power issues, Not turning off and the sound just stopping.

After seeing this thread, I checked and found my truck is subject to the recall. Now I wait until there is a "remedy" available.

I find it humorous that the bank can't transfer the vehicles lease to a new party due to a potential safety recall. Yet, based on the given information there is no issue with you retaining the vehicle with same said unresolved safety recall. Whom are they protecting? Their client (you?) or the public at large? or?

Sorry, just one of those things that make me go... Hmm...

Ally Bank should be willing to waive the lease payments and monthly notes on all of the affected trucks until a remedy is available.

Thanks everyone for your response...

It's baffling to me how they say how to fix the problem, but "Recall Status: INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE"

Ally Bank is the worst thing ever.... Does anyone have suggestions on what to do? This has been going on since the end of Feb. (trying to do a lease transfer) and now they're using this as an excuse.

Any GM reps on here?

Thanks all!

Guess it comes with years of dealing with Governmentese phraseology...... appears whomever wrote the document may have transferred some of it into the bulletin.

If it is a recall notification and lists a fix the dealer should perform the fix as listed, or at the very least it is their responsibility to contact the issuing GM entity or Government oversight agency for clarification.......all recalls have an identification number which is explained in detail on their website or through phone contact. The bottom statement does not contraindicate performing listed repairs, otherwise it would specifically say so. Ask the dealer to contact GM because they are apparently misinterpreting the wording. Appears to me that the bottom statement is the status, i.e. summary of the recall action to date.....two separate phrases.

1. Recall Status: Incomplete......means recall actions are ongoing and final action disposition not yet submitted, evaluated and closed out by NHSTA or other oversight agency.

2. Remedy not yet available........since it lists a repair procedure it obviously does not mean a remedy to correct a defective vehicle more likely means a remedy to be taken by the manufacturing site to prevent future occurrence, or a way of identifying all suspect vehicles, i.e. could require a change in manufacturing procedure, finding a new supplier, changing part materials, designing a new piece of manufacturing equipment

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
