DRL's problem.

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 4.8L SLE Extended Cab 3dr.

I have the truck almost ready for safety and e-test. But the DRL's are not coming on. I may not be doing something right to get them to come on. My first truck so need help. All other lights work on the truck.

I have changed the factory bulbs to the 4114LL and still nothing.

I have tested and changed the relay and fuses and the wiring is all good as well nothing.

*** Is there something I am not doing to get these to come on? ***

Really need help to figure out how to turn these on as they need to be working for the safety the garage said.

Check to see if the light sensor on the top of your dash is hooked up.

Is there an easy way to check if it is hooked up or not?

Not really. If you try to take it out of the dash pad it's liable to fall down in to the dash. I would first check to see if it's even there, or that it's not covered up.

There is one there on the passenger side of the dash and there is nothing blocking it. Also the DRL light on the dash don't show up as well.

There should only be one sensor. It should be on top of the dash in the center close to the windshield.

Okay, no problem. When I bought my 06 my DRL's didn't work either. The sensor had fallen into the dash, and the only way I could get it out was to take the top dash pad off, and stick the sensor back up through.

Question: Does it have to be daytime or night time that might be a problem too. I am checking them during the day. Just trying to figure this out

Should be day time. The sensor on the dash will see the sunlight and determine that the DRL's need to be on. At night it will determine that the headlights need to be on.

Ok thanks so I was at least doing that right checking during the day time. Not sure what to check if everything is there?

Yea, if the sensor is there and hooked up, I'm not sure what the problem would be other than the sensor is bad.

Ok thanks for all the help. I might look into finding and getting a new on and maybe the light sockets as well just to be sure.
