So I looked threw several hundred posts and didn't see anything so here it is. When I switch my drive electors between modes I get a audible high pitch electric type noise. Not a big deal but I notice it frequently does it in the auto mode. This is definitely annoying enough to keep me out of this setting which I prefer to use when roads are wet. Has anyone else had this problem and where they able to get it fixed. My truck is 2016 Sierra Z71 with a little over 1k on it. Much thanks

#PIP5261A: Faint High Pitched Whine Noise In Auto 4 Wheel Drive - (Feb 8, 2016)

Subject: Faint High Pitched Whine Noise In Auto 4 Wheel Drive

Models: 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2014-2016 GMC Sierra 2015-2016 Chevrolet Suburban Tahoe 2015-2016 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV Equipped with Automatic Transmission and 4 wd RPO NQH or NP0

This PI was superseded to update Model Years. Please discard PIP5261

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment on a high pitched whine noise from the vehicle noticed when driving in auto 4wd. The customer may comment that it is an intermittent noise and no noticeable pattern to when it can be heard.

Recommendation/Instructions

The transfer case control module on these vehicles is located next to the accelerator pedal and is not covered by any close out or hush panels.

When the transfer case control module has to move the transfer case actuator motor the higher current passing through the module causes an "electronic buzz or whine" within some of the capacitors in the module that can be heard by some of our customers.

Typically this can only be heard with all accessories and HVAC off and only when actuator movement is required. This does not indicate a concern with the module and should not be replaced to address this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

My 15 HD does it when you shift positions, my 2012 did it when you shift and when in AUTO like the new ones do.

So just an update!!! I took it to my dealer and they said that there is nothing that they could do for the issue. On the 2016 there is a higher frequency running threw the shift dial and it is a known problem. Said it can be resolved with som me dyno mat to trying to insulate the sound but they could not do this in house saying it will void warranty. They have had several complaints about it be Gm has yet to release anything official or come up with a correction at this time.

This is more than a year old. but it likely still applies:

High-Pitched Sound in Auto 4WD
February 20, 2015
A high-pitched whine sound may be noticed when driving some 2014-2015 Silverado, Sierra; 2015 Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon models and Escalade models in Auto 4WD (RPO NQH or NP0). The sound is intermittent with no noticeable pattern.
The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) on these vehicles is located next to the accelerator pedal and is not covered by any close-out or hush panels. (Fig. 18) When the TCCM has to move the transfer case actuator motor, the higher current passing through the module causes an electronic buzz or whine within some of the capacitors in the module. Typically, this sound can be heard only with all accessories and the climate controls off and only when actuator movement is required.
The high-pitched whine sound does not indicate a concern with the module and should not be replaced to address this condition.

This is the price we pay for being too lazy to use a manual transfer case lever.

This is the price we pay for lazy/cheap engineering. There are capacitors designed specifically to fix this problem, but since they are a few cents more GM will not use them. They lift the capacitors off of the circuit board slightly so the noise is not generated.

I don't know what to do, I just started snowing in Minnesota and I can't use auto or 4 wheel drive because the high pitch noise literally makes my skin crawl. How can't Gm do something about this? I have a 2015 sierra Denali and love it but might have to trade it in if this can't be fixed. It's like nails on a chalk board

It shouldn't be continuous.

I love how when you ask the dealership about this issue, they stare at you like you are crazy and hearing things. I wish I knew something that could fix it and yes it's continuous when I'm in anything but 2 wheel drive. It drives me nuts. We got 6 inches of snow today
