After the exhaust appointment, I drove down to get my wheels and tires that were ready to be picked up. I went with a 20X10 -24 Fuel Nutz and 33X12.50R20. I researched this setup for weeks but could not find any clear answers to know how it actually fit, if trimming/metal work was needed, etc. I finally found one guy and got in touch with him to ask him some questions. After talking to him and seeing some pictures, I was sold it was going to fit. Even Discount Tire advised me that with the stock tires on those wheels, I wouldn't be able to turn. I ordered them from www.customoffsets.com and they took about 2.5 weeks to come in.

 

I was really skeptical about getting them installed since I heard so many people tell me it wasn't going to work and I only talked to one person who said it did. I needed to get the alignment done from the leveling kit so I took it to the GM dealership we use at my work. They have a performance line for lift packages, etc so I felt they would be the best at aligning it. When I brought it in, they were even skeptical about fitting them on just a level kit. They put them on and to their surprise, IT FIT!. There is only a minor and I mean minor rub at full lock to the right in reverse. You have to be holding the steering wheel against the stop to get it to rub. It is a really tight fit but I took it camping this weekend and did some mild offroading and had zero issues with it. Anyways here are some pictures on how it turned out.

Passenger front fender, wheels cranked to the right. It looks like it is touching but there is about 1/8"-1/4" clearance.

Jesus, thats a fantastic sound. Are you getting any drone on the freeway? Thats one of my largest concerns personally.

that sounds soooooooo good.

 

one of the things i really miss about my old truck ('89 c1500) is the sound of the exhaust. when i do my exhaust i'll be telling the guys i want it to sound like my old truck (and i'll let them know what you did!)

It sounds amazing. Honestly, I really want to say it is 'perfect.' In town cruising speeds, you can hear it in the background very slightly, just enough to remind you that it is there (in a good way). When AFM does kick in, it is hardly noticeable. As I have previously said, if the cab is 100% quiet, no talking, no mouth breathing, no farting, music off, windows up, I mean SILENT, you can hear it go into AFM mode and there is very slight drone/helicopter noise. My truck is NEVER that silent as I am always talking, windows down, music on, phone calls, or something in between so I never really hear it. I commute daily down the highway about 30 miles one way 65mph-80mph and I never notice it.

 

There is always a trade off when modifying stuff from the factory and this is one I am completely ok with. To sum it up, I am 110% happy with the sound. The start up sounds amazing, accelerating sounds amazing, and idle/cruising is just right. I think if I went any other direction I wouldn't have been happy. $500 installed was a great deal to me.

Do you have the 5.3 or 6.2?

Thank you! As much as I dislike chrome... I do not want it to look like a work truck model. The little bits of chrome gives it a two tone look and makes it stand out much more. I also did not want to go with all black wheels because they look like black holes to me.

 

As much as I wanted the 6.2, I got a great deal on this truck and it has the 5.3. I never tow anything so the 6.2 would have just been for the cool factor.

I feel you there! I am not a big fan of chrome either but it can be tastefully done where it's just right. I think you've got a good balance going here.

Literally the same day I got the exhaust and wheels/tires put on, I was headed up to the mountains for some camping. On the way there I fought wind like crazy (that's Wyoming for ya) so it got 16.5, On my way back, I reset the MPG and got 21.6 with no wind.

 

I do about 75/25 split between highway and in town driving during the week. The in town mileage has gone down about 1-2mpg but the highway mileage seems about the same. Could also be due to me giving it a little more to hear the exhaust too.

Haha sounds about right.

As soon as i got my exhaust and my intake my MPG went to crap... i have my foot in it way too much!

I can get my in town mileage up to like 17, but most of the time it is around 13 now.

My highway mileage seemed to suffer the most once I put my grill guard on.

I was worried about it when i first got this truck because it was so much better than the last one... then i started adding things and well... I'm not as concerned anymore haha. Just looking at lifts and bigger tires now!

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
