Brand New 2016 z71 - $3k on a lift?

Hi all,

I just purchased a brand new 2016 z71 Sliverado 5.3L w/ 3.42s. I have around $6500 to spend on upgrades; At first I was looking to dump the entire amount into a 6" pro-comp lift with wheels and 35" tires (reputable local shop quoted 4-6K installed). Now i'm torn on if I should just go all in and spend that money or If i were to go another route and use half let's say $3000-3500. what would you guys suggest? What would a $3k build look like?

I need the price to include install and everything.

Won't get far with 3k on a 4-6" lift with wheels and tires. 33" tires for my truck were almost 1300 alone, another 2k for the lift itself, plus wheels, TPMS sensors, mount, balance, lift install, alignment, etc. It adds up

You can do what I did and go with BDS. I spent total $3,700 for my set up. Price break down was:

6" BDS lift with upgraded Fox Shocks= $1,900 shipped to door from RockRidge4x4

35/12.5r20 Firestone Destination MT = $1,200

Kit installation with alignment, mount and balance of tires from local off road shop = $600

Saved good amount of money by using my factory wheels which I think look fantastic on the truck anyways.

If it includes wheels and tires... That could be close to 2500-3k in itself.

You get what you pay for. A good lift itself will run ~3k easy and that does not include install. I was where you are now a few months ago and thought I had enough saved up but when I started shopping I found I could really only go for the cheap stuff I quickly found it will cost me about 2x as much as I thought to get a good lift set up worthy of a new truck. The Procomp setup is a good choice and the one I am looking at now. Unfortunately I live in Canada and our dollar sucks right now with a 1.31 exchange rate. They have a great warranty on all 3 parts which is appealing, and a lot of M/T tires out there do not have any warranty; I am looking at you Nitto.

If you had a shop quote 4-6 k they must really suck because that is a piss poor estimate. They should be able to give you a bang on amount if they have done this before 4-6k is a 2k difference or 50% What are the estimating by cutting a chicken head off and letting it run around on a pricing mat?

Its really not that hard:

Cost of Lift

+Cost of tire

+cost of wheel

+Install time x shop rate

+wheel alignment

-----------------------------------

= total

*You can estimate this yourself pretty easy since the kit will list the time to install, if your shop is not coming close to this and say taking twice as long, find another shop as clearly the lift manufacturer thinks they are not very capable or they are hosing you. All you really need to know is the shop rate and what the alignment will cost and do the maths yourself.

My suggestion is to shop around, never accept full price of any listed kit. I researched for almost a year before choosing BDS Suspension systems and where to buy it from. The kits that cost 3k+ are the true coil over set ups that unless you are doing some Baja style off-roading are un-necessary. I didn't want a spacer style lift which is what almost all companies offer, and is another reason I chose the 6'' BDS kit as it uses a full replacement strut to achieve the desired lift.

If a Procomp Lift is what your looking for then you can get the full 6'' Coilover kit from 4wheelparts.com for $2,600 no need to buy from the shop who does install.

That sounds about right, unfortunately the procomp stage 2 w/ coil over is out of stock right now and only the stage 1 w/o is available last I check bout 3 weeks ago :(

I am hoping that they will have more by the time I have my Canadian clams saved. With this darn exchange rate it is 2 steps forward one step back lol. US is doing pretty good right now compared to us.

Look in to a full throttle 7", runs about 1800 plus install. Some shops out here are doing them for 1800 installed.

I agree. For the money/quality it's hard to beat a FTS 7" I ran it on 2 seperate trucks (2012/2015) with 0 issues. I installed myself, so around $1650 for the lift. Some shops can really rape you on install price, hence doing it yourself is the way to go. For what i've been quoted labor, that went a long way toward wheels/tires.

Are the Fox shocks available for the front and the rear on that particular BDS kit? I saw an option for the rear Fox shock but wasn't sure about the front.

Also, do you have any other pics of your truck? Maybe from like the back or front? I'm considering running my stock All Terrain wheels with a 6" lift and would like to see how the wheels look. I'm concerned that they may look pretty narrow with a decent size lift.

If you'd like more just go to my profile and check them out. The kit I chose only had the option of upgrading the rear shocks to Fox. The front just provides a new strut from BDS. If you want the Fox in the front you upgrade to the coil-over Kit. IMO you will be more than happy with what the kit provides.

I almost went with the RCX 6" kit. From what I've seen there isn't anything wrong with Rough Country's kits they are just a Spacer style kit and I opted for a kit that utilized struts to achieve the lift instead.

What does everyone thing about the Rough Country 6" suspension lift?

That looks amazing! That is the first set of 20" wheels that I actually like.
