I just picked up a new 3500 4x crew today my first new gm since my 95 Z71,as the 16 F350 sucked, and it has the 3 button remote entry fobs. I asked what it would cost to add remote start and $371 was the $. I asked if i had to turn it my first 2 fobs for the 4 button ones so all functions would be on one FOB. I was told that i had to use 3 button for the doors and the new 4 button would only work for the start?

That makes no sense, why can the 2 new ones be programed to start and open the doors? Then if i kept the 2 old ones they would be xtras just for the doors, even if they had to be reprogrammed when the 4 button were added. Is this correct or is the dealer misspeaking?

Thanks

I've got a retail listed of $310 installed so sounds like your dealer is got a pretty good markup in there. The kit itself is $275 and it pays 1/2 hour to install. All 4 fobs should still be able to work unless they delete the old ones out of the truck. On the HD trucks, they just change the hood latch, and reprogram the truck to make it active. The kit is two remotes and a hood latch, plus the authorization code the dealer calls in to GM with to get the new programming for remote start. That's it.

i was told that once you add factory remote start that the key fob's work on a different frequency, so the old ones will not work

No.

Personally, even though my trucks come with factory remote start, I add an aftermarket one anyway. More than 200 feet of range, two way tells me it started and it runs for more than twenty minutes. When it is minus 35 twenty minutes barely warms the engine up let alone the cab. If you are spending the money I would go aftermarket. Of course that is up to you :)

He sure could but, we've ripped out many of those a couple years down the road for theft/security issues, keyless entry issues, no starts, etc.

Okay, thanks for the input,I'll be doing some more research before I take in to anyone. Don't need it,but for a few hundred, it would be nice on hot/cold days. Still reading manual, got a so called base Sierra truck and it still has all kinds of junk on it.
