Advice on leveling kit

Recommended Posts

I am currently looking to get a leveling kit for my '15 silverado 1500 I have never had a leveling kit before. I was looking at the 2 inch rough country leveling kit. I'm sure I would need an alignment after installing this. Do these kits negatively effect trucks? Do ball joints wear faster? I put on about 25k miles a year so I want it to be pretty reliable.

Here's how it sits currently.

I love my 2" rc. Looks perfect and I had it aligned also. Wasn't off much, but I like that peace of mind.

I have had a 2" level since 10k miles and I just replaced both my upper control arms @ 54k, ball joints went bad. Cost me $160, still worth it

I did a 1.5" MotoFab level. Yes, it will need aligned afterwards, my toe was off after the install.

Yes, leveling kits will add additional stresses to front end components so they will wear faster but it really depends on a lot of things. I know guys that have run a leveling kit for over 100k miles without having to replace any front end components and I have seen guys install a kit on a brand new truck and then have to do front end work 10k later (these cases are few and far between though so don't let that scare you). Leveling kits are still worth it though. Just a small add on for a drastic improvement in overall looks. And of course, as everyone above has said, an alignment is required if you don't want premature tire wear.

Thanks looking forward to improving the look!
