Vibration while downshifting at highway speeds after Bilstein Level

I've searched and searched and probably not searching the right ways but here's my problem.

I had the 5100 series Bilsteins installed on my truck last night, put them to the highest setting and over all was pleased with everything... Until I "got on it" on the highway and felt a vibration while downshifting. As soon as steep on it it while at speeds 65 and over itll downshift and starts to vibrate. As soon as I let off it goes away. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue, this was something I was expecting if I went with the larger RC Kit, not with the Bilsteins.

Truck is a 2016 Z71 5.3 with 6 speed with 1,000 miles on it.

Any help or direction to the right place is appreciated.

The only thing that comes to mind is either turn the shocks to their lowest lift, or return the truck to stock, then re-test. Also, check all your bolt torque on anything that was loosened or removed to install the level.

When I installed just the front 5100's on the highest level. The truck road better and vibrated less. Added the rears and it does stiffen everything up adding a little vibration IMO. But I did expect this outcome.

IMO this adds credence to what I have read in other threads about the rear end being a potential source of vibration in these trucks.

But I also have changed tires from Goodyear LS2's to Goodyear AT advantage and I feel they may be a little out of round but not out of balance. The LS2 is a lousy tire IMO. The AT is a much better tire.

I think what I need is a good set of Michelins but I want to get at least 30,000 put of these Goodyears.

My next experiment, early next week, is to to put the stock rear shocks back on and see if I like that ride better.

Have a little over 2,000 miles on the truck 600-800 miles on the Bilstein 5100's.

You said you would expect this from the "larger RC Kit". Why? I suspect the reasons would apply to both brands of lift. I look forward to hearing if 15HDriver's suggestion to check bolt torques solves the problem or if other members have a solution before I install my leveling kit!

Trying the shocks again at the lowest setting would be a lot of work and require another alignment. If it still behaved badly would this be the truck or the shocks causing the vibration? Are you sure you tried driving the truck in the same manner before the install? Maybe it always did this!

A question and/or thought I've had is how do level kits impact such things as "hill assist" features on these trucks? By leveling our trucks we may be altering more than the looks. Maybe your vibration under rapid acceleration is electrical rather than mechanical..... I hope it is a loose bolt!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I took it back and they re checked everything and re tightened everything. Still does it. It's very slight but you can feel it. I know I drove in a similar manner before the lift, and never felt anything. Can't quite seem to figure it out.

I tightened the u-bolts to 79 ft-lbs and put the stock rear shocks back on. Very little vibration what I would call normal. Rides a little better with the stock shocks. Instead of doing one thing at a time I did both. I attribute the improvement to torquing the ubolts properly but will check this out in a couple of weeks when I put the Rear Bilsteins back on.

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
