2009 5.3 Replacement

Hello all. My 2009 Sierra AFM oil burner just lost compression in #6. I like the truck very much. What do you think I should do? A Jasper is about $3600 while a GM OE is $3900. Most places are charging $2500 for labor on the install. With water pump and gaskets that puts me around $7000. Wondering if I should do this it go another route. THANKS

I'm with O J, only I'd run some heavy duty engine flush thru it first, what do you have to lose?

Why replace the entire engine? Have you determined what caused the loss of compression? Is it in the head, or piston? If it is the head you can get the heads rebuilt at a machine shop for less than $500.00. I just had the heads rebuilt on my sons 4.3 and they were $340.00. He lost compression on #4, turned out to be a burnt valve.

Long way to say, are you sure it is the bottom end?

What he said^^^

I'd find out what caused the cylinder to lose compression first before making any buying decisions.

No need to spend 7gs on GM LS in a 7 yr old vehicle. That's getting into Porsche money. There are many cheaper ways to do it & that's what makes the LS one of history's greatest all time engines. Dime a dozen and generally reliable.
